Shift Maintenance Engineer
My client is a modern and progressive Chemical Manufacturing business, with manufacturing sites in USA, Europe and Asia. Their Livingston site is relatively small in terms of personnel but is one of their flagship sites and consistently delivers a substantial profit. It's a fascinating site with 3 separate plants, producing a variety of products such as gels, pastes and powders.
The business has a fantastic cultural geared around trust and mutual respect. The Shift Maintenance Engineer role will report into a supportive and enthusiastic Engineering Supervisor & will be responsible for day-to-day delivery of the site’s maintenance strategy, alongside a multi-skilled team .

The shifts will be 4 on, 4 off; a combination of days and nights, with a competitive base salary, 30% shift allowance, bonus scheme, private healthcare and other additional benefits.
Key Responsibilities
The Shift Maintenance Engineer serves as a vital resource for the maintenance and operations team by applying electrical and engineering support to maximise the availability of the plant and equipment. Technical skills and experience are required to ensure the safe and efficient operation of the site’s manufacturing processes. This role is responsible for actively contributing to a positive health and safety culture in the workplace.
You will:
* Carry out Electrical / Mechanical breakdown repairs.
* Assist on Electrical / Mechanical Projects when required
* Ensure that safe working practices are always maintained.
* Cover for other shift engineers during holidays / sickness.
* Cover for the Operations team during sickness
* Liaise with Engineering Supervisor to agree priorities
* Liaise with Shift Supervisor during silent hours to agree priorities
* Actively close of work orders in Maintenance System
* Work with Engineer Supervisor to prioritise work orders
* Participate in internal and external training
* Responsible for the effective use of time and utilities to achieve Overall Equipment Effectiveness targets.
* Ensure effective communication oral and written including shift handover logs/checklist and site interaction
* Active participation in site inspections and safety initiatives.
* Report incidents to line manager
* Support the shift and prioritise tasks
* Communicate effectively with the engineering department to resolve any maintenance issues and ensure work orders are entered into the system.
* Ensure holidays are covered
* On call requirements may be required in the absence of any engineers on shift
* Ensure main safety hazards on site are known and protections in place to mitigate against these.
Knowledge / Experience / Skills Required
* Electrical Engineering Qualification
* Experience in a manufacturing environment, withing a maintenance role
* PLCs/Inventors experience.
* Experience of continuous improvement
* Knowledge of Permit to Work Systems
* Flexible / can-do working approach.
* Good communication skills at all levels.
* Ability to work under pressure, make clear decisions and meet targets.
* Self-starter who is proactive.
