Job overview
We are seeking a dynamic and conscientious echocardiographer to work at Barts Health NHS Trust. The successful candidate will work at the Barts Heart Centre, St Bartholomew’s Hospital located in The City of London, with rotation to one of the other sites within the Trust network and contribute to the weekend working rota on a rotational basis. This role will provide the successful candidate with exposure to a variety of complex cardiac pathologies and clinical situations.
To be successful in being appointed to a band 7 post, the applicant must have full BSE/EACVI transthoracic accreditation (or international equivalent) and be able to work independently providing this service. Applicants who have passed the written accreditation exam and are working towards full accreditation may be offered a Band 6 position (the expectation of independent working and weekend rota commitments would not start until full accreditation is achieved).
The department holds dual accreditation with both the British Society of Echocardiography (BSE) and European Association of Cardiovascular Imaging (EACVI), so this is an exciting opportunity to develop your career as a competent Echocardiographer with opportunities to progress to training in advanced specialist areas i.e. Cardio-oncology, cardiomyopathy and/or adult congenital.
The successful applicant will be an enthusiastic, motivated and forward-thinking individual who will contribute to the cardiac physiology team and echo service.
Main duties of the job
An experienced Senior Band 6 or Band 7 Cardiac Physiologist/Highly Specialized Echocardiographer/Cardiac Scientist is required to work competently in a busy Echocardiography Department. The post-holder will be required to perform complex-level tasks unsupervised or supervised (working towards unsupervised) and assist senior staff as needed. The post holder must be able to work at St Bartholomew’s hospital and one of the network sites (Royal London, Newham University, Whipps Cross or UCLH). The post-holder will be required to work autonomously as a senior staff member within the non-invasive Cardiac Diagnostics department, assisting senior staff with managerial tasks. In addition, the post-holder will be required to supervise, train, guide, and support staff in the performance of their roles and to provide support to senior staff members. The successful post holder will be expected to join the weekend rotation for inpatient cover.
