You will join the UK subsidiary of AL-KO Gardentech, a family-owned company founded in Kötz, Germany, in 1931. With over 2,400 employees and operations in 30 locations worldwide, the AL-KO GROUP reported a revenue of approximately 500 million euros in 2023. The company is part of PRIMEPULSE, an investment holding based in Munich, which generates an income of over 1 billion euros.
Your workplace will be in Wincanton, Somerset, a modern facility with offices, service areas, and distribution centres. The growing business seeks a team member to work with customers from small independent retailers to large multinational accounts.
Job Summary
The Head of Finance will play a crucial role in overseeing the organisation's financial operations, ensuring effective financial management and strategic planning. This leadership position requires a dynamic individual with a strong financial accounting and services background, capable of effectively managing the finance team while driving organisational growth and sustainability. The ideal candidate will have exceptional organisational skills and the ability to lead with vision and integrity.
Duties
1. Develop and implement financial strategies that align with the organisation's goals.
2. Ensure compliance with financial regulations and standards.
3. Manage relationships with external auditors, banks, and other financial institutions.
4. Monitor cash flow and manage working capital effectively.
5. Identify areas for cost reduction and efficiency improvements within the business.
6. Primary contact for financial and accounting tasks in the UK business.
7. Preparation of annual budget and forecast updated alongside the Managing Director.
8. Controlling and reporting all costs in the business against the annual budget.
9. Management and processing of daily B2C incoming and outgoing payments.
10. Control and processing of open item lists and reconciliation of debtor and creditor accounts.
11. Responsibility for the correct booking, monitoring and timely payment of supplier invoices, including in the document management and ERP system postings.
12. Reconciliation of bank statements.
13. Compliance with tax requirements and reporting requirements.
14. Support in the preparation of evaluations and reports for planning and control purposes, including reports to the parent company.
15. Responsible for accounting, payroll, VAT and HMRC processes.
16. Working with an external accountant to ensure deadlines for annual filing and compliance.
17. Leading other varied accounting work.
18. Develop and supervise the implementation of internal financial accounting, monitoring and reporting systems.
19. Analyse, prepare, and present monthly and quarterly financial, budgeting, and forecasting reports, and present your findings to the Managing Director and colleagues at our Headquarters in Kötz, Germany.
20. Manage, mentor and motivate the finance team.
21. Research into factors influencing business performance and report on these.
22. To support, uphold and comply with the company Health & Safety Policy as the site incorporates a busy logistics department and workshop.

7. Professional accountancy qualification with over 5 years of experience in accounting and finance.
8. Excellent understanding of accounting principles and procedures.
9. A desire to build a motivated team to create a strong finance department.
10. Confident user of IT systems and MS Office programs, particularly Excel.
11. Great attention to detail, ensuring high accuracy and care in work.
12. Independent, goal-oriented, and structured work approach.
The Person:
To succeed in this role, candidates must have proven experience as a Financial Manager. You should possess exceptional organisational skills and communicate effectively with individuals at all levels of the organisation. Your proficiency in Microsoft Office is excellent, and you can learn new systems quickly. You are naturally proactive, adept at problem-solving, and conscientious, always striving to perform at your best. These attributes will enable you to deliver high-quality results and support your professional growth within the position.
Ideally, although not required, you should have prior experience dealing with multiple currencies and a good understanding of Microsoft Dynamics NAV.
