Founder’s Assistant / Start-Up Generalist
📍 Brighton (Hybrid) | 💼 Full-Time | 💰 £26k–£32k + bonus
This is not a normal job ad. And this is not a normal job.
We’re Eequ – a mission-led tech company building a booking platform that powers community-run activities and council-funded programmes for underprivileged children. We’re growing fast, our users are non-technical, our software is beautiful and solving real problems.
We’re growing fast and we’re looking for a Founder’s Assistant/ Start-Up Generalist. Someone to help our founder carry the weight, move fast, and make smart decisions in the middle of the chaos.
You won’t be joining a department. You won’t be reporting to a manager. You’ll be embedded at the heart of the company—working directly alongside the founder to unblock her day, move things forward, and build systems that reduce complexity for everyone. You’ll handle everything from user support to strategy decks, from tweaking UX to rewriting help articles, from firefighting to building fire escapes.
This is the kind of job that will change your career—if you’re the kind of person who can thrive in ambiguity, act without permission, and teach yourself anything.
Where You Might Be Coming From
We’re not prescriptive about backgrounds—we care far more about mindset than certificates. But if you’re wondering whether this role is for you, here are a few examples of the kinds of people who might thrive here:
* You’re a recent grad with a fierce interest in entrepreneurship. Maybe you’ve been building things on the side, exploring your own ideas, running events, or getting stuck into real-world projects outside your course.
* You’re mid-career, juggling multiple hats in a small business—bookkeeping, sales, marketing, customer support—but it’s feeling too routine and you’re itching to be part of something faster, weirder, and more ambitious.
* You’ve run a household like a mission-critical organisation. You’ve built systems, solved impossible logistics, and held everything together with duct tape and emotional intelligence. You know how to organise the chaos—and you’re ready for a new challenge.
We don’t need polished CVs or perfect experience. We’d rather hear about your side hustles, projects, obsessions, or the time you pulled off something unlikely just because you decided to learn how.
Scroll down to "How to Apply" to see how best to share that with us.
What You’ll Actually Do
No two weeks will look the same, but you’ll probably find yourself:
* Triaging and shaping priorities with the founder—across sales, ops, product, partnerships, and support
* Managing her calendar, inbox, reminders, and making sure nothing important drops
* Handling technical support with empathy and sharpness—and feeding what you learn straight into product design
* Tarting up slide decks, writing great emails, and punchy content.
* Doing copious technical support calls, speaking to users by video calls and chat.
* Working with our UX designers to solve user challenges, tweaking designs, improving the knowledge base, training chatbots.
* Playing with and improving the way we use tools such as Intercom, Attio, Google Suite, Linear, Slack.
* Following your special interest in something such as —UX design, growth marketing, product, ops, support—you’ll find your angle over time
Critically - You’ll be one of four people working directly with customers, not just to support them—but to make the platform so intuitive that support is no longer needed. It’s about designing user barriers out of existence.
Who This Is Perfect For
This job will suit you if:
* You teach yourself new things compulsively, and don’t need permission to start
* Naturally entrepreneurial and intrinsically motivated
* Better at asking “what matters most?” than “what’s the process?”
* You hate traditional corporate culture and want no part in it
* You thrive with no rules and lots of trust
* You can prioritise well and make hard trade-offs when everything is important
* You’re comfortable with some chaos.
Who This Won’t Work For
Please don’t apply if:
* Need formal structure, clear boundaries, or detailed job descriptions
* You prefer to be assigned tasks rather than take initiative
* You get anxious without rules or structure
* Get frustrated when priorities change daily (sometimes hourly)
* Don’t believe you can teach yourself anything using what’s freely available online
The Details
* Salary: £26k–£32k depending on current skills and experience
* Commission: Available for any sales-related work you contribute to
* Location: Brighton - with flexibility to work from home when it makes sense
* Flexibility: We care about value, not hours. Structure your day however you work best
* Growth: You’ll shape your role based on what you discover you’re great at
* Team: We’re small, mission-driven, no managers, no gatekeepers.
How to Apply
Write to hello@eequ.org and tell us in your own words (not using ChatGPT- we can tell):
* Why you are a good fit for this role
* Something you’ve taught yourself recently
