Job summary
The Haldon, is a NHS Specialist Eating DisorderUnit based in Exeter, Devon. We provide an inpatient treatment programme topromoting recovery from an Eating Disorders in a caring and compassionateenvironment.
The ward is a 10 bedded unit for people requiringintensive treatment to treat the physical aspects of an Eating Disorderalongside the psychological maintaining factors.
Your role as a Qualified Nurse on Haldon wouldinclude being part of the multi-disciplinary team. This would includesupporting with identifying goals and aims of their treatment, working closely withthe person as part of the core nursing team and daily aspects of nursing careon a busy Eating Disorder Unit.
Main duties of the job
1. Ability to be able to communicate effectively withpatients and families taking into account any communication difficulties theymay have and responding appropriately this may include neuro-diversity.
2. To form and maintain therapeutic relationships andact as a Named Nurse throughout a persons admission
3. Participate in Clinical Review Meetings as part ofthe core nursing team
4. Meal time support including guidance and techniquesduring meals and after in post meal support.
5. To be trained in interventions such as NG feeding,which could be under the MHA legal framework.
6. Assessment of risk and management of risk inconjunction with MDT
7. Delivery of therapeutic interventions, - assisting/ facilitating in the running of groups and individual 1-1, offering time inpositive and active engagement.
8. Participate in procedures involving intensiveengagement and de-escalation techniques. The role will require the post holderto perform Physical Intervention Techniques, therefore they must declarephysical fitness to undertake such a role.
9. Nursing care skills including physicalobservations, blood sugar monitoring and medication management.
10. Be able to recognise signs of abuse and knowprocedures they need to follow to escalate their concerns.
11. To be able to act in a professional capacity andawareness of professional boundaries.
12. Be able to run and organise a nursing shift.
13. Oversee and support students nurses.
