We currently have an opening in Barnsley for a Security Officer / Security Guard responsible for physical security of the site but also for promoting a safe and secure work environment for all colleagues and site visitors.

AmcoGiffen’s project and framework portfolio typically consists of Infrastructure and Capital Delivery projects, Asset Maintenance frameworks, maintenance and renewals of railway and environmental infrastructure including but not limited to; bridge re-construction/replacement, upgrades and refurbishments, station work (platforms etc.), access for all schemes, structures including overbridges and under bridges, tunnels and footbridges, embankments, flood and coastal risk management, mechanical and electrical engineering, fabrication etc. (not an exhaustive list of works/services).
The Role
We currently have an opening in Barnsley for a Security Officer / Security Guard, responsible for
ensuring not just the physical security of the site but also promoting a safe and secure work environment for all individuals present. The responsibilities require a proactive approach, vigilance, and effective communication to effectively manage the various security aspects of the facility.
Day to day tasks and responsibilities are likely to include but not be limited to:
1. Monitoring Access:
o Control entry and exit points to the facility.
o Verify identification of individuals entering the site and ensure employees, contractors, and visitors are authorised to be on the premises.
2. Patrolling:
o Conduct regular patrols of the yard and surrounding areas to deter unauthorised access, theft, and vandalism.
o Inspect buildings, fences, gates, and other infrastructure for any signs of tampering or damage.
3. Surveillance:
o Monitor security cameras and alarm systems, ensuring they are functioning correctly.
o Respond to any security alarms or alerts promptly.
4. Incident Response:
o Act as the first responder to any incidents, such as safety violations, suspicious activity, or emergencies.
o Investigate disturbances or complaints, document the situation, and report it to management as necessary.
5. Emergency Preparedness:
o Be familiar with emergency response plans, including evacuation procedures and protocols for different types of emergencies (e.g. fires, accidents, intrusions).
o Conduct safety checks and drills to ensure preparedness.
6. Reporting:
o Maintain logs of daily activities, incidents, and observations.
o Prepare incident reports for management and, if necessary, law enforcement or regulatory bodies.
7. Safety Monitoring:
o Ensure compliance with safety protocols and regulations within the construction yard.
o Monitor behaviour of workers and visitors to enforce safety rules and procedures.
8. Customer Service:
o Provide assistance and information to colleagues and visitors, maintaining a professional demeanour.
o Address any concerns or questions raised by personnel or visitors.
9. Collaboration:
o Work closely with site management and safety personnel to ensure a comprehensive security strategy.
o Collaborate with local law enforcement or emergency services when needed.
10. Equipment and Asset Protection:
o Monitor and secure tools, machinery, and materials to prevent theft or unauthorised use.
o Conduct periodic checks to ensure that valuable assets are accounted for and secure.
11. Documentation:
o Maintain accurate records of incidents, access logs, and inventory checks.
o Document any safety or security issues to improve protocols and training.
Requirements
Candidates should have appropriate experience in a similar role responsible for security of a large and busy, head office/depot facility.
* Previous experience in a similar role is required.
* Communication Skills: Ability to communicate effectively with staff, management, and visitors.
* Attention to Detail: Vigilant observation skills to identify potential security risks.
* Problem-Solving Skills: Capacity to react calmly and effectively in emergencies.
* Physical Fitness: Capability to perform patrols and respond to incidents.
* Knowledge of Safety Regulations: Familiarity with relevant safety and security protocols and compliance regulations.
* Shift pattern - Thursday / Friday / Saturday / Sunday night shifts – 17.00hrs – 05.00hrs
o Must be willing to have flexibility in shift pattern, required to cover for holidays and illness.
