Scitech specialises in delivering innovative, bespoke solutions in the Life Sciences, Pharmaceutical, Biotechnology and Radiopharma sectors. We’re looking for Mechanical Engineers of all grades to join our dynamic team and play a pivotal role in expanding the technical and design definition and delivery of our cutting-edge projects.
The Role
You will be defining, specifying and assessing bespoke equipment to meet the client’s requirements and delivering exceptional client support. This will be for Radiopharma containment processes, parenteral and oral dose pharmaceutical manufacturing lines, fluid handling and transfer and manual handling systems. From being part of a team, including the customer’s team, or leading project teams (as per your experience), to critiquing complex system designs, your expertise will ensure that our project objectives are met.
Key Responsibilities
* Prepare/manage discipline designs, including calculations, schedules, specifications, and design drawings and concept sketches, across project delivery stages from feasibility to hand-over.
* Collaborate/coordinate with multi-discipline project design teams, delivering technical outputs and designer deliverables.
* Represent Scitech and our clients with engineering process equipment expertise, and equipment design as required by the engineering application. This will include manufacturing progress assessments at the specialist vendor’s works, participation in works-based testing and repeat testing at site (UK and RoW).
* Application of cGMP to equipment design and qualification ahead of process validation.
* Knowledge of barrier technology and contained transfer techniques.
* Background knowledge of Radiopharmaceutical isotopes and their specialist processing and handling techniques, such as small scale ‘wet chemistry’ for synthesis, formulation/compounding, vial dispensing, sterilisation and subsequent inspection, labelling and potting.
* Support project quality through adherence to Scitech’s Quality procedures and systems.
* Assist procurement and estimating teams with cost planning and technical guidance.
* Support/Lead design coordination between disciplines and third-party contributors.
* Proactively drive improvements in quality, efficiency, and innovation.
* According to experience act as Design Lead and/or Discipline Lead on assigned projects.
* Maintain ongoing professional development to stay at the forefront of industry practices.
What You’ll Bring
* Technical Expertise: Ideally experience in Radiopharma manufacture including mechanical handling, containment (Hotcells) / isolators, ventilation abatement, and in-cell processing.
* Core experience in automated manufacturing processing lines for vials, syringes, tablets etc. and mechanical handling and integration for wider processing systems.
* Understanding and experience of complex package equipment procurement for capital projects.
* Knowledge/proficiency in design and project engineering for Life Sciences, Pharmaceutical, and Scientific sectors, with a strong grasp of GxP standards (FDA, MHRA, EMA etc.), ASME BPE and ISPE/BS codes.
* Ergonomics and human factors in machine design and operational interfaces.
* Software Skills: Advanced capability with use of Microsoft suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Visio sketching would be useful too. An awareness of tools such as Solidworks, CAD and Revit would be valuable. Proficiency in Fusion is desirable, as the role involves supporting the 3D modelling of glove boxes etc.
* Project Mastery: Experience across all project lifecycle stages, from master planning to post-completion or with design and vendor management.
* Leadership and Communication: Confident and articulate, with the ability to take responsibility for or lead delivery to achieve project goals via effective use of resources.
* Education & Experience: Degree or HNC/HND in Mechanical Engineering or other related engineering discipline with operational experience of packaged mechanical systems specification, procurement and commissioning. Chartered or actively working towards Chartered status.
Why Join Scitech?
* Work on impactful, high-value projects that improve lives globally.
* Collaborate with talented professionals in a supportive and innovative environment.
* Enjoy opportunities for professional growth and Chartership support. Specific training and insight in Radiopharma will be provided where necessary.
* Be part of a company that values your ideas, input, and development.
