The Royal Liverpool University Hospital has recently merged with Aintree University Hospital to form the exciting new Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and is looking to expand its current complement of band 6 Radiographers. In addition to the merger, we have recently moved into a brand-new hospital with state-of-the-art equipment.
We are a multi-faceted department, offering a rotation through Computerised Tomography and Magnetic Resonance Imaging. We operate a CT and MRI shift pattern involving evenings, weekends and overnight CT duties, whilst maintaining the opportunity to enhance earnings through overtime.
Our Imaging department comprises of 4 new Siemens CT scanners that perform a diverse number of examinations on a weekly basis e.g. CT guided ablations, cardiac scans and colonography examinations. Additionally, we have 2 onsite 1.5T Siemens Sola MRI scanners and a 3T Siemens Vida as well as the exciting opportunity for training and rotation on a state of the art 1.5T Siemens Sola MRI scanner located at Broadgreen hospital. The Radiology department covers a wide spectrum of imaging examinations including Trauma, Stroke, Cardiac, Pancreatic, Vascular and Renal Transplant.
MRI experience desirable for this post.
Perform specialist clinical duties by undertaking complex specialised radiological examinations in CT and MRI and all aspects of patient care associated with this.
To perform imaging examinations at a consistently high technical and professional standard.
Support Area Leads and take responsibility for the general department in their absence.
Assist with & support development of Band 5 Radiographers ensuring compliance with department protocols and procedures.
Take part in QA, Student Assessment and Audit/Research.
Post process image data and ensure a high quality of diagnostic information has been attained.
Maintain correct patient records and statutory radiation records to reflect the examination performed.
Ensuring the safe administration of ‘Intravenous Contrast’ using contrast injection pumps which has patient safety implications.
Ensure that the code of Practice for Radiation Safety, as drawn up in the Local Rules, is observed at all times, and report any breaches or problems concerning these rules to the Radiation Protection Supervisor.
Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust was created on 1 October 2019 following the merger of two adult acute Trusts, Aintree University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and the Royal Liverpool and Broadgreen University Hospitals NHS Trust.

Performance of clinical radiographic duties as delegated by the Area Lead in each section.
Participation in the out of hours rota.
Participate in the radiographic rotation through the highly specialised areas of CT and MRI.
Participation in the vetting of appropriate request forms and discussion with the medical team regarding appropriateness and urgency of examinations in association with the Area Lead in charge of the area.
To participate in multi-disciplinary team working.
To practice within the rules of the Health Professions Council.
To ensure effective communication with patients, carers and all health care professionals about all aspects of patient care.
To maintain accurate documentation pertinent to the examination.
Supervision and assistance in training of entry grade student radiographers, assistant practitioners and more band 5 radiographers.
Assist in the training of student radiographers and qualified radiographers in setting high standards of radiography in patient care and enabling each radiographer to become conversant with all the radiography duties in CT and MRI.
Close liaison with the Area leads to organise and supervise workflow in the area.
Responsible for the injection of contrast media for enhanced examinations, and awareness of type of contrast media required for different examinations.
Reports and records faults on equipment as and when they occur.
Ensure radiation doses to every patient are as low as reasonably achievable (ALARA) consistent with a diagnostic result.
To work to radiographic protocols and policies as required under the ionising regulations.
To comply with IR(ME)R 2017 & IRR 2017.
Perform regular QA on equipment in all areas of work
