The ideal candidate will possess UK experience and passed Membership of the Royal College Physicians exams.
Trust Grade Registrar / Fellow in STROKE Medicine
Duration: 12 months rolling fixed term
Rota: Full time with on calls.
These are posts at the level of a Specialist Registrar in Medicine. The posts also include opportunities to partake in an on-call Registrar rota covering the medical wards across one of the three UHL sites as well as oncalls in Stroke and Acute Medical units. These will appeal to those who have completed core level training and are wishing to pursue a higher career in Medical Specialties.
The responsibilities of the post are identical to that of an IM3 or ST3 in Medicine.
The main duties and responsibilities of this post are to
1. Ensure a safe and high standard of care of all patients
2. Participate in the running of the department/ward
3. Provide clinical supervision of Junior doctors on medical wards & /or in the on-call team
4. Provide senior medical input for the on-call Medical Team (especially Out of Hours) and potentially lead the cardiac arrest team
5. Assist with achieving the DOH Clinical Quality Indicators
Main duties of the job
All posts have a service element and the following covers the majority of duties. There will be minor variations in different hospitals but the list is aimed at covering the majority of duties:
6. Supervise, monitor and assist Junior Medical Doctors in the day-to-day management of in-patients in posts.
7. Liaise between nurses, junior doctors, patients, relatives and senior medical staff.
8. Attend and participate in ward rounds as timetabled.
9. Take part in timetabled Emergency work. This will involve contributing senior input to the on-call team and may include any combination of leading the arrest team, supervising a medical admissions unit, reviewing medical patients on base wards and providing a medical opinion for patients in other specialities.
10. Participate in Medical Outpatient Clinics.
11. Independently perform basic medical procedures including Lumbar Puncture, Abdominal Paracentesis and Ascitic drain insertion.
12. Dictate discharge summaries.
13. Attend weekly educational and multidisciplinary sessions.
14. Teach medical students as directed.
15. Co-operate with members of the personnel department when monitoring hours of work and other personnel issues.
16. Attend induction in each hospital or new department.
17. Comply with all local policies including dress code, annual and study leave.
