Location: Flexible across the UK, central team based in York, YO32 9PT
We’re seeking a Principal Fire Engineer to join our Design and Engineering function in York. As our next Principal Fire Engineer, you will be primarily responsible for fire engineering covering building compliance and certification for all Portakabin building solutions.
You will provide expert advice to internal teams on fire safety matters and develop robust and simple to use guidance, tools, systems and governance to support business units with efficient local execution in line with central policies. You will also support the Technical Compliance Manager with SME knowledge which may feed into national and/or European regulatory consultations and work with industry trade associations.
The successful candidate can be based anywhere in the UK but there would be the expectation for them to be in the York office at least once a month and during the induction period.
Key responsibilities will include:
* Ensure Portakabin building solutions, including specialist sub-contract packages, comply with relevant fire safety regulations and standards.
* Prepare validation documentation which may include, for example, reports or presentations, for substantiation of the solutions.
* Provide support to commercial teams at the Bid and Delivery stages in evaluating the Portakabin building solution offers to identify potential fire hazards.
* Assess the fire resistance and reaction to fire requirements of buildings and structures.
* Develop fire strategy reports and recommendations.
* Conduct fire safety training programs for internal teams.
* Develop educational materials and resources.
* Investigate the causes of fires and analyse the damage to the modular building structure.
* Collect evidence and prepare detailed reports.
As a Principal Fire Engineer you will have:
* Specialist knowledge and understanding of existing and emerging technology and its application.
* Knowledge of European and sector legislation and standards.
* The ability to prioritise complex work with competing deadlines.
* Experience in the application of building regulations and other relevant fire safety design guidance.
* A degree in a relevant subject and evidence of continuous professional development.
* Professional accreditation.
