Job Description:
The Electrical and Mechanical Engineer will ensure that all equipment at our sewage treatment works is running safely and efficiently using proactive and reactive maintenance methods. You will inspect, maintain, fault diagnose, test, install, modify, or repair electrical and mechanical plant equipment.
What you’ll be doing as a Mechanical & Electrical Engineer
* Working within the maintenance team, following robust planned maintenance, participating in minor installation projects, electrical fault finding, and emergency breakdown repairs to ensure our plant operates year-round.
* Carrying out scheduled, unscheduled, and emergency maintenance work on mechanical and electrical equipment in compliance with company procedures to minimize plant breakdowns.
* Investigating plant failures and performing repairs efficiently to avoid process interruptions, including diagnosing complex faults.
* Providing technical advice, referencing up-to-date technical knowledge, and supporting or training technical trainees if needed.
* Working on equipment such as motors, gearboxes, conveyors, centrifuges, pumps, control gear, VSDs, valves, measurement systems, PLCs, VSDs, chemical handling, and dosing equipment.
* Participating in a standby rota following relevant training.
What should you bring to the role?
* Significant experience in electrical systems, ideally with a background as a time-served apprentice, and qualifications such as ONC/HNC, NVQ, or C&G Level 3 in mechanical engineering, with mechanical NVQ2/3 as an advantage.
* Upskilled in mechanical work to inspect, maintain, fault diagnose, test, install, modify, or repair mechanical and electrical plant equipment safely and efficiently.
* Experience working on large industrial plant equipment, including pumps in the utilities industry, is beneficial.
* Knowledge of health and safety issues, physical fitness for working in confined spaces, and participation in a 24/7 standby rota are required.
* A valid driving license is essential; all tools and equipment are provided.
