As part of this role, you will be responsible for contributing specialist health, safety, and environmental (HSE) knowledge for all commercial activities, ensuring HSE risk is minimized for LR colleagues, maintaining HSE compliance, and managing HSE projects to provide commercially focused support and/or service delivery to internal and/or external clients. Develop global HSE programmes (standards, procedures, training and communications) mitigating LR risk, advise Regional HSE Business Partners with implementation, and report on the effectiveness of implementation by region.

The role
Responsibilities
* Lead on implementation of HSE changes and developments across stakeholder groups to meet future business/commercial demands to improve LR’s competitive position through clear, visible, and felt leadership. Lead the development of effective HSE processes for new commercial offerings ensuring hazards are identified and risks mitigated.
* Accountable for ensuring clients understand LR HSE expectations and that LR HSE performance is recognized as a positive service differentiator (with the support of the commercial team). Promote LR HSE best practices with clients, ensuring that LR and client HSE expectations are aligned where possible.
* Lead the development of HSE materials to support bids, working closely with the Bids Teams to deliver high-quality HSE content for bid submissions.
* Lead the identification of LR HSE hazards and risk assessment and the development of HSE programmes (including written instructions, training, and safety alerts/briefings) to mitigate risk as far as reasonably practical globally, ensuring programmes are appropriate and effective in mitigating risk for operational and commercial colleagues.
* Accountable for the maintenance of the LR HSE management system, ensuring continuing suitability to mitigate risk and meet the requirements of IACS requirements and ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 certification.
* Lead the identification of HSE training requirements/specifications and assist Regional Business HSE Partners to identify/approve local providers.
* Ensure consistency and strategic alignment within, and across, the HSE function, and contribute to the continual improvement of HSE culture, risk mitigation, and management system.
* Pursue Continuous Professional Development and maintain a high degree of discipline knowledge and awareness.
* Ensure collaboration within the HSE Business Partner community across different regions to ensure consistent safety standards and address local regulatory requirements, driving safety culture across diverse regions.
* Review HSE regulatory compliance ensuring an effective process exists in all jurisdictions LR operates in and that the LR HSE management system supports compliance with legal and other requirements.
* Accountable for the closure of all HSE related corrective actions (such as audit findings) helping colleagues and senior managers to address findings on time.
* Create an environment for open and proactive dialogue regarding HSE performance and concerns, supporting a “Proactive” and/or “Independent” HSE culture.
* Mentor/coach colleagues to achieve effective knowledge transfer and application.
* Provide support for Internal Audit with HSE assurance activities, including knowledge transfer and root cause analysis of findings, ensuring assurance activities are focused on critical HSE risks (for example high-risk operations).
* Assist with the implementation of the Crisis Management Plan, recommending response team activation and supporting crisis management activities.
* Responsible for monitoring health and safety performance and ensuring clear messaging regarding best and good practice/performance and creating a compelling message for change if performance falls below expectations.
* Create an environment where a high performing team exists; clear, open, fair, and listening communication style is adopted. Ensure above expectations performance is recognized and effective performance management for underperformance. Champion inclusivity and diversity in day-to-day activities/interactions, new hires, etc.
What you bring
* Graduate in a science, engineering, or related discipline with sufficient practical ‘hands-on’ experience of leading safety, occupational health, and environment in large multinationals to command respect from the business leadership teams.
* Proven commercial acumen and a track record of positive client engagement regarding HSE matters.
* Significant experience in global HSE management actively involved in a high-risk industry.
* Proven track record in project management.
* A Certified Safety Professional, holding membership of a relevant professional body such as the American Society of Safety Engineers or the American Industrial Hygiene Association.
* Able to work with ambiguity across diverse and ever-changing functions, operating effectively within matrix reporting lines to support the achievement of key performance indicators and goals.
* Ability to coach and mentor HSE team members and others to achieve personal and team goals.
* Able to communicate effectively at all levels of the organization both internally and externally. Excellent interpersonal skills and proven communication skills in a multi-cultural environment.
* Proficiency in the English Language commensurate with the work.
* Demonstrable experience of leading global programmes, building and maintaining effective stakeholder relationships within QHSE team and internal & external stakeholder groups.
* Ability to understand and assess complex and sometimes unfamiliar situations, visualize solutions, and see through to resolution.
* Able to work as part of a team to contribute to achieving departmental/business objectives.
* Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.
* Strong organizational and project management skills.
