Clinical Nurse Specialist
Job overview
This is an exciting opportunity for a Registered General Nurse to join the Head and Neck CNS team for maternity leave cover over a 12-month period.
In this role, you will work closely with the Head and Neck Clinical Nurse Specialists and other members of the Multi-Professional Team to support the patient throughout their Head and Neck Cancer Journey.
We require an enthusiastic, forward-thinking, and motivated member of staff to join this busy service. This role will give you an excellent understanding of the Head and Neck Cancer patients' experience and help build on your knowledge and skills to deliver high-quality care.
The ideal candidate will have Head and Neck and/or oncology experience and would have some knowledge in the care of the Head and Neck Cancer patient.
Following a local induction, you will help provide support, education, and specialist advice to patients, carers, and health professionals in Head and Neck Cancer. Excellent communication skills are essential to the role as you will be expected to work autonomously with the support of the CNS and multidisciplinary team.
Main duties of the job
1. Be the key worker for the duration of the patients' head and neck cancer journey from diagnosis through to completion of treatment.
2. Assess patients and plan, implement, and evaluate care using specialist clinical knowledge and skills.
3. Review patients and provide care in inpatient, outpatient, and community settings.
4. Contribute to a multidisciplinary approach to patient management.
5. Provide education and support to patients, carers, and colleagues in tracheostomy and valve care.
6. Participate in audit, research, and service development within the Head and Neck service.
7. Refer patients to members of the multi-professional team and community for ongoing support and advice as required.
