Epsom and St Helier Hospitals NHS Trust has an exciting opportunity for an Anatomical Pathology Assistant to join the mortuary at Epsom General Hospital, with the possibility of working at St Helier Hospital, Carshalton when required.
Full mortuary services are provided on both Epsom and St Helier sites, with the autopsy service being provided at St Helier Hospital.
Applications are invited for the post of Anatomical Pathology Assistant. We are looking for an individual to join our motivated and enthusiastic team that will contribute to upholding and improving upon our quality service. The applicant must be able to work as part of a team or alone, have excellent communication skills, and display meticulous attention to detail with the ability to recall complex information. The applicant must also be willing to participate in all activities related to the mortuary.
Main duties of the job
The duties are physically and mentally demanding, requiring participation in the departmental quality management system. Physical aspects include moving and handling of patients, family viewings, and, on occasion, preparation of the deceased for autopsy examination. An essential quality is an empathic approach towards the bereaved.
There may be the opportunity to take part in the on-call rota to cover periods of annual leave and sickness.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* Good general education and MUST be numerate and literate with good command of spoken and written English.
Experience
* Significant amount of experience.
* Ability to deal with bereaved relatives and the viewing of bodies.
Knowledge
* Ability to undertake technical procedures and sound knowledge of principles and practice of specialist area.
* Ability to deal sensitively with members of the public and problem-solving skills.
* A broad range of techniques and knowledge of HTA and UKAS.
