Principal Design Engineer (Temporary & Permanent Works). Our client, the UK branch of an international multidisciplinary construction consultancy, provides services in permanent and temporary works design, method engineering, commercial and project management support, marine consultancy, and professional secondment. They are seeking a Chartered Principal Design Engineer to lead their UK design function. Reporting to the UK Managing Director, this role involves servicing existing clients, securing new business, and developing a design team to support UK and international projects. Key Responsibilities: Lead and grow the UK design team, including client development, recruitment, and mentoring. Manage design projects efficiently, optimising resources across UK and international offices. Deliver specialised Temporary and Permanent Works design from concept to construction, ensuring integration with permanent structures. Provide expertise in Finite Element Method (FEM) modelling using software like SpaceGass, Midas Civil, Strand7, Autodesk Suite, and Tekla Structures/Tedds. Ensure clear communication between design teams, drafters, and detailers to maintain accuracy. Maintain compliance with UK design codes and industry standards. Support tenders and proposals with technical input and cost estimates. Requirements: Chartered Engineer (ICE) with a degree in Structural or Geotechnical Engineering (IStructE) Experience in complex structural engineering, particularly bridges and construction methodologies. Strong understanding of structural systems, load paths, and first principles. Proficiency in 3D structural analysis software and UK design codes. Site experience and practical problem-solving skills.
