Main Purpose of the Job
To act as a leader among the Chemist Team and deliver projects on time and lead the development of the products.
Key Responsibilities
1. Liaise with Chemists on a daily basis to direct the chemistry and suggest solutions for synthetic/purification problems.
2. Execute projects within deadlines.
3. Develop synthetic chemistry plans.
4. Evaluate synthetic routes for specific products and execute the lab work.
5. Keep lab books up to date and store data for each project in respective folders.
6. Prepare external weekly and final reports for specific projects as required by clients and attend weekly teleconferences.
7. Provide support and training about usage of some of the lab equipment and ensure that the lab is working safely.
8. Perform lab tasks safely and ensure that all equipment is turned off before the end of the day.
9. Communicate regularly with managers regarding projects and lab equipment.
10. Provide advice and direction on synthetic organic chemistry issues to colleagues.
11. Prepare quotes when required.
12. Support with admin tasks when needed.
13. Attend conferences/symposiums/training courses abroad/UK when requested.
14. Maintain a good working practice on a daily basis.
Candidate Requirements
1. First-class degree or equivalent in chemistry, ideally a PhD/D.Phil and/or postdoctoral research experience in total synthesis.
2. An excellent record in synthetic organic chemistry.
3. Problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
4. Excellent attention to detail.
5. A good team-working approach.
6. Strong analytical skills.
7. Team leader and excellent communicator.
8. Experience of working on big and complex projects would be desirable.
9. Excellent decision-making and influencing skills.
10. A passion for innovation and problem-solving.
