Glasgow will host the 23rd edition of Commonwealth Games between 23 July and 2 August 2026. Approximately 3,000 athletes and team officials from up to 74 nations and territories across the Commonwealth will come together in a 10-day celebration of sport and culture. Events will take place across Glasgow, entertaining around 500,000 ticketed spectators and reaching a global broadcast audience of more than one billion.
Glasgow 2026 Limited, the Organising Company (the OC), is organising the Games along with the Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) and Commonwealth Games Scotland (CGS). Each has key parts to play in the planning and delivery of the Commonwealth Games - individually and collectively - to ensure that Glasgow 2026 is a huge success.

We are looking for an experienced Financial Planning Specialist to join our Finance team. Working closely with the Head of Finance, you will be responsible for leading the development of accurate, high quality and insightful financial information and analysis; and for appraising, challenging, and supporting the development of spending plans and forecasts across the OC.
This role requires a dynamic and experienced financial expert to work collaboratively with internal departments, external stakeholders, and event delivery partners. The Financial Planning Specialist will play a pivotal role in delivering a financially successful Games, adhering to governance standards and leaving a positive legacy for the Commonwealth Games Federation, host city and stakeholders.
Job Summary:
The Financial Planning Specialist will be responsible for:
* Providing expert financial modelling, analysis, strategic advice and constructive challenge to colleagues across the OC, ensuring informed decision-making.
* Providing assurance on key contracts, supporting contract management and ensuring suppliers’ deliver all financial reporting requirements.
* Supporting the development and management of the Games’ budget, ensuring alignment with strategic and operational objectives.
* Leading financial forecasting processes, providing accurate and timely updates to stakeholders.
* Developing and recommending financial risk management strategies to mitigate potential financial and operational risks.
* Monitoring financial performance, identifying variances, and proposing corrective actions to address emerging challenges.
* Supporting robust financial contingency planning to address unexpected scenarios.
* Collaborating with key stakeholders, including Event Delivery Partners, government bodies, sponsors, and international federations, to ensure transparency and accountability in financial management.
* Supporting sponsorship efforts by providing financial insights and analysis.
* Leading on the drafting of key papers for Board, Budget Oversight Group and Audit and Risk Committee as required.
* Contributing to the post-Games financial decommissioning and reporting processes, ensuring a smooth transition and legacy delivery.
Education:
· Professional accounting qualification is required. (CA, ACCA, ACA, CIMA, CIPFA)
Key Skills and Experience:
We are looking for a Financial Planning Specialist who has advanced financial modelling and analytical skills. The ideal candidate should thrive working in a fast-paced environment and have excellent interpersonal and communication skills across all stakeholder levels. In addition, you should also be able to demonstrate experience post qualification in relation to planning and budgeting in a complex environment.
