Both posts will work as part of a portfolio leadership team with general responsibilities for leading work to support the Chief Regulator including;
* Working collaboratively with place-based and national teams across the Environment Agency to identify, prioritise, implement and evaluate improvements to our regulatory processes that deliver efficiencies alongside positive outcomes for the environment and human health.
* Set the direction for and lead positive change, engaging and influencing a wide range of stakeholders.
* Providing high quality and timely reports, briefing and advice to EA seniors and stakeholders.
* Actively using business planning and risk management approaches to manage resources in an agile way.
In addition, each role has a specific focus; Role 1 - Assurance, risk, performance and evaluation. You will lead the development, implementation and management of a new assurance framework for regulation in the Environment Agency. You will lead work to understand the health of our regulatory system including coordination of and reporting against cross-cutting performance measures and the active management of risk and issues. This role will also be responsible for embedding the use of evaluation across regulation in the Environment Agency. Role 2 - Regulatory people, skills and workforce. In this role you will lead work to build a future-ready regulatory workforce that can meet today's challenges and those on the horizon. Workstreams for which you will lead delivery are focused around: regulatory officer (cross cutting) training and technical capability development; delivering a strategic workforce plan for regulation; establishing regulation as a profession across the Environment Agency with the Chief Regulator as Head of Profession; recruitment and retention of niche and scarce skills. The team Each role has responsibility for leading a small directly line-managed team as well as leading virtual teams. Both roles report to the Deputy Director, Regulatory Resilience in the Chief Regulator's Group. This is a national role but there will be occasions where travel is needed to attend team meetings.
* Regulatory skills and knowledge gained through experience in place-based and national regulatory roles.
