We are expanding our commercial management team to support National Highways' annual £1bn investment programme to maintain the Strategic Road Network. As part of this, we have exciting opportunities for Assistant Quantity Surveyors, with an interest in defined cost auditing, to join our centralised audit team.
As an Assistant Quantity Surveyor in the Audit Team, you will support (and in some cases lead) on the commercial and contract management of defined cost audits supporting a portfolio of schemes individually varying in value from £0.2m to more than £2m. The nature and diversity of the portfolio ensures the opportunity for you to enhance your skills, capabilities and experience in a complex delivery environment. In addition to auditing you will spend a portion of your time supporting the commercial delivery of schemes for the regional office's local renewals capital programme.
The role can be based from any of the following UK offices: Bristol, Basingstoke, Birmingham, Guildford, Nottingham, Warrington or Preston, however travel to Birmingham (and occasionally other offices) to attend monthly team days will be required, together with travel to providers offices to carry out cost audits. In all cases we have a flexible hybrid working approach, meaning the role will be a combination of working in your local office/agile home working
What you'll be leading on
* Supporting and leading on cost and contract audits to ensure contractor compliance with contract conditions
* Maintain collaborative working relationship with supply chain contractors.
* Supply Chain management including sending enquiry documentation, quotation assessment, work order award and instructions to supply chain where required. Supply Chain Payment assessment including all relevant documentation on a monthly basis.
* Assisting in the management of site level change control including early warning and compensation event management and assessment, both to the Client and to the supply chain as necessary.
* Manage own portfolio of works under supervision from QS/ SQS.
* Liaising with other departments to ensure that trackers are up-to-date, data is accurate and reconciled against other sources.
To be successful you'll need
* To have either achieved or be working towards a degree/HND in Quantity Surveying or other relevant technical qualification and/or completion of a formally recognised graduate programme, apprenticeship or similar. Alternatively, you will be working towards a Chartered qualification within a relevant professional organisation, such as RICS, ICES, or equivalent.
* Basic experience in NEC4 forms of contract including experience of NEC Schedule of Cost Components, in particular Option C/E together with an awareness of defined cost audits.
* Intermediate level MS Excel (basic formula, pivot tables, formatting).
* You will have good written and verbal communication skills enabling you to engage effectively with a variety of stakeholders.
* Good commercial awareness and understanding of commercial management
