Children's Palliative Care Clinical Nurse Specialist
As a Children's Clinical Nurse Specialist, you will become part of a growing, close-knit team dedicated to delivering advanced symptom management and holistic care to our children, young people, and families across Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire, and Milton Keynes. You'll be offering compassion, expertise, and support every step of the way.
Main duties of the job
1. Provide advanced level symptom management within specialist palliative care nursing to children, young people, and their families.
2. Manage a caseload within a geographical locality.
3. Champion the holistic wellbeing of our children and families, advocating for their needs and ensuring that they are supported.
4. Manage your own work whilst offering expert advice to families navigating the complexities of palliative care.
5. Provide clinical leadership for the Keech Children's service, patients, families, and external multi-professional teams.
6. Deliver learning and development to enhance knowledge, skills, and confidence across services.

Keech Hospice provides free, specialist care for adults in Luton and South Bedfordshire, and children from Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire, and Milton Keynes living with a life-limiting illness. Keech supports adults and children to live pain and symptom-free, to spend untroubled time with their loved ones, to understand what's happening to them, to stay out of hospital, and to make the most of the time they have.
Job responsibilities
1. Provide holistic and evidence-based advanced nursing care to children and young people with complex palliative care, pain, and symptom control needs using a care pathway approach delivered to the child and family at their preferred place of care.
2. Manage a designated caseload within a geographical locality.
3. Act as a point of contact for specialist symptom control and management advice for all children and young people throughout the palliative care pathway within Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire, or Milton Keynes.
4. Participate in an On Call Rota system to ensure responsiveness to families at all times.
5. Act as a non-medical prescriber within the scope of your professional practice.
6. Support existing services to provide a coordinated multidisciplinary approach to the provision of palliative care for children.
7. Work collaboratively with an identified group of medical practitioners to provide symptom management advice and support.
8. Contribute to Keech's involvement within the East of England Managed Clinical Network.
9. Ensure that all children who need them have current symptom management plans in place and that these are regularly reviewed.
10. Support integration of Advance Care Planning for children and young people in line with East of England Policy and Guidance.
11. Advocate for and support parents, children, and young people.
12. Demonstrate a research-based approach to nursing and participate in ongoing research and audit.
13. Work confidently and competently as a lone worker and within a team in the home setting and within the hospice when required.
14. Provide clinical leadership for the children's community service and line management for nurses.
15. Contribute to the development of evidence-based standards, guidelines, protocols, policies, and audit.
16. Participate in the development, implementation, and evaluation of Keech hospice's care strategy as required.
Person Specification
Qualifications
* NMC Registered Children's Nurse
* Paediatric Palliative Care Qualification
* Non-medical prescriber or willingness to achieve
* Teaching qualification
* Advanced level communication skills
Experience
* Extensive experience in children's palliative care
* Experience in clinical leadership, mentorship, and service development
