Part-time Teacher of German [Home Languages Programme]
UWCSEA Dover has a vacancy for a Part-Time Teacher of German for our Home Languages Programme (HLP) to start in August 2025.
The Home Languages Programme is for students who want to maintain a language spoken at home but who do not study this language as part of the academic curriculum during the school day at an appropriate level. This programme offers students the opportunity to gain cultural understanding of the language, as well as improve their linguistic skills to gain age-appropriate fluency in their home language.
The students’ ages are from 4 to 16 years old. Classes are taught in small groups of 3 to 6 students of similar ages and linguistic levels and will take place after school (or at lunchtime for some younger students).
Main Responsibilities
* Plan, prepare and teach classes as required.
* Use digital resources to enhance students’ learning.
* Provide samples of students’ learning in the school online learning platform for parents to follow students’ progress.
* Provide feedback to parents, if required.
* Collaborate with the other teachers of the German Language Department in developing a German Language Curriculum.
Person Specifications
* Applicants must be degree holders with language teaching experience. Candidates without teaching qualifications but possess experience teaching age groups from 4 to 16 years old with appropriate resources are encouraged to apply.
* Candidates must have the ability to teach German to students who speak German as their home language or are Heritage speakers of German.
* A commitment to diversity and inclusion is essential alongside a willingness to adapt and develop pedagogy to meet the needs of our learners.
* Contribute positively and collaboratively to the development of German Language and Culture in the Home Languages Programme.
* Promote cultural exchange and cross-cultural understanding, and to embed German customs, history and traditions in the lessons.
All qualified applicants, including those who identify as a part of marginalized group(s) and individuals with (dis)abilities are encouraged to apply. Our school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of all the students in our care and expects all applicants to share this commitment. We follow safe recruitment practices and all appointments are subject to interview, satisfactory references, identity and criminal record checks.
