The Role:
The New House Hotel, a serene and romantic country hotel located in Thornhill, just outside of Cardiff, is searching for a passionate Head Chef to join our team. Set high in the hills with stunning views of Cardiff and across the sea to Devon, we offer more than just a job we offer an opportunity to explore and achieve your personal goals in hospitality, and craft unforgettable experiences.
You will lead and manage a busy and fast paced kitchen and be passionate about delivering culinary excellence and exceptional customer service. As the Head Chef, you will be responsible for training, motivating and leading the team to uphold food production, hygiene and service standards. You will collaborate with the Operations Director and General Manager on menu development.

What does work asa Head Chef look like:
Kitchen Leadership and Team Management: You will manage a team of chefs and kitchen assistants. You will delegate tasks ensuring smooth coordination and maintain a positive working environment. As the Head Chef you will train and mentor new staff by helping them develop new skills. You will be responsible for ensuring that your team is up to speed on kitchen techniques and standards. You will also motivate and encourage your team and manage personalities and resolve any conflicts where necessary. Being a strong communicator and leader is key in this role.
Menu development: Your role as a Head Chef will involve menu designing. This will involve creating new dishes, selecting ingredients and collaborating with Operational Director and General Manager. You will be required to stay on top of food trends to keep the menus competitive and exciting. Your role will also involve writing recipes which include detailed instructions for preparation, plating and presentation and you will ensure consistency in the quality of dishes served.
Quality and Consistency: You will not be cooking every single dish yourself, however you will be heavily involved in the quality control, therefore you will ensure that dishes meet the kitchen standards in terms of taste, texture and presentation is crucial. As the Head Chef you will oversee how the food is plated and presented. Visual appeal of the dishes is just as important as the taste. You will also regularly taste dishes to ensure the food is to the standard and make adjustments where necessary.
Kitchen Operations and Logistics: You will oversee inventory and ensure that the kitchen has the necessary supplies, which includes managing food orders, checking stock, and minimising waste. The Head Chef will balance quality and cost to maintain profitability. You will be responsible for maintaining the kitchens budget, therefore you will track food costs, mange supplier relationships and ensure that the kitchen operates efficiently without compromising on quality. Health and safety compliance will also be your responsibility, where you will maintain high standard of cleanliness and food safety. You will be responsible for adhering to health regulations, managing sanitation and ensuring that the kitchen runs smoothly and safely.
Collaboration: A big part of this role will be to communicate with front of house staff to ensure a smooth running of service, both in the restaurant and large events. This includes coordinating timing for orders, handling special dietary requests and addressing customer feedback quickly. At times, you may be required to handle customer complaints if there is an issue with the food. Your role as Head Chef will be to step in and resolve these issues.
What We are Looking For:
Passion: You will have a natural passion for food and culinary arts, as well as enthusiasm for creating extraordinary guest experiences. You will have proven experience as a Head Chef or Sous Chef having had some leadership involvement within a high quality kitchen environment.
Team Champion: You will have the ability to lead and manage a team as well as work within a passionate team and working well under pressure.
Development: You will desire to be the best you can be in your role as a Head Chef and will have a willingness to learn and develop new skills.
Organisation and Attention to Detail: You will have strong attention to detail when processing orders, checking the budget and scheduling your departments rotas, and have the ability to be organised and manage your department.
