The Opportunity
At Leonardo, we have an opportunity for a Principal Project Engineer.
You will join the Surveillance Radar Engineering Team within the Airborne AESA Radar business sector to support the management of a multi-disciplined team tasked with the development and delivery of our current generation Surveillance Radar products.
As a Principal Project Engineer, you will work closely with the Project Engineering Lead (PEL), Project Engineering Manager (PEM) and Project Manager (PM) as well as the engineering functions necessary to deliver the AESA Radar product to the customer community.
What you'll do as a Principal Project Engineer
This is an exciting and challenging opportunity to join a dynamic team in a time of significant growth in the sector. You will work closely with the responsible PEL to deliver the current generation products against the required timescales and budget, this will include
1. Management of elements of the Project Work Packages.
2. Requirements management particularly with regard to customer specific requirements.
3. Technical management of a multi-disciplinary engineering team to ensure product verification tasks are completed in accordance with the plan.
4. Preparation and presentation at monthly Engineering Project Reviews and Project Status Reviews.
Your additional responsibilities will be to:
5. Work with the IPT to create effective, efficient and realistic plans, developing the customer specific product solution for delivery and communicating this to the IPT to ensure forward load is correct and resources are available.
6. Support early production engagement to ensure robustness and integrity of the Assembly, Integration and Test activities for each customer specific product solution.
7. Work with the IPT to create the test reports and compliance matrices required for design certification ensuring the requisite documentation is managed to completion within the required timeline.
8. Establish good lines of communication and maintain a positive working relationship across all internal and external stakeholders including any support required to the PEL/PM for customer’s visits in Edinburgh or off site.
What we are looking for
Ideally, you will be degree/HND/HNC qualified, or you will have relevant equivalent experience in a STEM related subject.
You will ideally have experience and knowledge in the following areas:
9. Effective and flexible communication skills offering excellent written and verbal presentation ability delivering high quality output.
10. Good, practical, knowledge of an engineering lifecycle.
11. An ability to track and manage a diverse set of activities, with numerous interactions, dependencies and priorities.
12. Experience or familiarity with the following areas would be an advantage: Electronics (Software/Firmware/hardware), mechanical design/integration; Verification, Validation or Certification activities; Work Package Management and the use of Project Planning tools.
13. Strong leadership skills, able to build effective working relationships in diverse environments both internally and externally.
14. Demonstrated commitment to continuous improvement and ongoing learning.
15. An ability to think beyond standard company processes.
16. An ability to liaise and work with different areas of the business (e.g. Capability, Procurement, Production, etc.) helping to ensure the support required.
17. An ability/aptitude to interface with customers both Internal and External.
18. The role is based at the Leonardo offices in Edinburgh, UK with occasional travel within the UK and worldwide to our customer, partner and end-user sites.
