Lead Mining Engineer

Glencore Copper is seeking a Lead Mining Engineer to support the growth and development of our Copper Portfolio to be based at our offices in Maidenhead.
Primary Purpose
The Lead Mining Engineer is accountable for project support to define the African resources for development.
Key Relationships
* Reports to Manager Projects - Africa
* Supervises: Mining Engineer and Geotechnical Engineer
* Liaise with other relevant technical disciplines as well as Geologists and Metallurgists, and externally with consultants.
Role Responsibilities Include
* Complete mine designs and conduct mine scheduling and equipment selection exercises
* Actively collaborate and integrate with design engineering, technical and project planning teams to shape the profile of projects by introducing industry best practice approaches to project design and execution
* Experience in identifying business integration opportunities and optimizing business operations by reducing complexity.
* Conduct optimisation exercises in the study stages, incorporating an appreciation of the various factors influencing project related objectives
* Apply rigorous assessment of project options as a part of a multidisciplinary team to maximise project value
* Support internal technical and toll gate reviews for operations and projects
* Support technical evaluations and reviews of investment opportunities
* Providing mentoring and support to on-site technical professionals across Glencore Copper Africa operations
* Assist with investigation and implementation of new mining and exploration related technology across our operations
Qualifications and Requirements
* An undergraduate qualification (Bachelors / Honours degree or equivalent) in a mining or resource engineering discipline.
* At least 8 years direct experience in developing mining projects
* High level of proficiency in writing technical reports and communication
* Ability to influence people across all levels of the business
* Ability to work well as part of a team; technical competence, diplomacy and resilience will also be essential attributes to the role
* Be proficient in Deswik Mining software
Additional Experience
* 10+ years of experience in mine project development across base and precious metals
* Prior experience working within diverse teams.
* English language skills (preferably bilingual French/English)
Additional Information
* Routine regular travel to DRC-based sites will be required.
