An exciting opportunity has become available for a 3 year secondment for the post of MERIT Clinical Lead.
The West Midlands Ambulance Service University NHS Foundation Trust (WMAS) MERIT Clinical Lead is primarily responsible for the provision of clinical leadership, clinical developments and clinical governance of WMAS MERIT and any other WMAS Enhanced care platforms. In addition, the MERIT Clinical Lead will ensure that all WMAS MERIT staff are suitably developed, educated and clinically supported.
The role will be based upon 4 Consultant PAs a week subject to agreement.
Applicants must be a Registered Medical Practitioner with a minimum of 7 years' experience and must have current registration with the GMC.

Job responsibilities
The WMAS MERIT Clinical Lead is responsible for the delivery of clinical care by WMAS MERIT and any other additional WMAS Enhanced Care platforms. They will also ensure robust clinical governance for all activities undertaken by WMAS MERIT and will provide managerial support to the WMAS Medical Director and the WMAS Head of Enhanced Care. The role is professionally accountable to the Executive Medical Director and operationally accountable to the WMAS Head of Enhanced Care.
The Clinical Lead will work in partnership with the Senior Operations Manager for MERIT & Enhanced care to ensure that delivery of clinical care, education, clinical governance and clinical mentoring is managed in line with WMAS policies and procedures.
Specifically, the core responsibilities of the WMAS MERIT Clinical Lead are:
1. To provide strong, visible clinical leadership to WMAS MERIT and the wider Trust.
2. To take overall responsibility for the clinical governance of MERIT and WMAS Enhanced Care platforms.
3. To contribute toward strategy for clinical services delivered on behalf of WMAS Enhanced Care systems.
4. To be responsible for and ensure team development, mentorship, assessment and education is managed, monitored, and undertaken on a continuous basis for both CCPs and Doctors.
5. To take a leading role in the selection and appointment of Enhanced Care clinicians.
6. To manage, maintain and communicate key clinical work streams with support of the WMAS leadership and governance team.
7. To provide regular feedback to WMAS as required.
8. In partnership with the Senior Operations Manager for MERIT & Enhanced Care, hold and maintain accurate records of clinical competency, currency and recency for all clinical staff working in the Enhanced Care Directorate.
Person Specification
Experience
* Evidence of significant clinical experience at consultant or GP principal level in a hospital, ambulance service or primary care environment.
* Can demonstrate significant experience of leading.
* Evidence of significant experience in pre-hospital emergency medicine, preferably at a senior level and assisting in the provision of clinical governance activities in this area. Evidence of experience or participation in, or oversight of, clinical audit or research programmes.
* Be a skilled and experienced pre-hospital physician.
Qualifications
* Registered medical practitioner with a minimum of 7 years experience with evidence of extensive pre-hospital emergency medicine experience. Evidence of recent and ongoing continual personal development.
* Has current general knowledge of the national NHS context, particularly those in relation to the ambulance service / critical care.
* Clinical Requirements are met to meet the full specification of a MERIT Doctor.
* GMC Registration.

* Knowledge of PHEM training pathway.
* Knowledge of WMAS trauma networks.
* Has knowledge of the challenges facing health and social care.
* Can evidence well developed leadership skills.
* Ability to discuss evidence-based medicine.
* Evidence of well developed communication skills, both verbal and written.
* Ability to assess risks, anticipate difficulties and successfully address them. Is computer literate.
* Has good analytic and critical reasoning skills and capable of effective problem solving.
* Demonstrates a leadership style which is visible and promotes an open culture.
