This is a new post for a Stroke Specialist Doctor to join us on the Isle of Wight. The right candidate will be enthusiastic and inspirational, supporting patients across the whole stroke pathway. This will include patients presenting at ED with Stroke symptoms, HASU support, inpatient ward rounds and TIA/Stroke Clinic. We work closely with our partners in Portsmouth where there are opportunities for shared learning, and MDT working. We also work with Southampton for patients requiring transfer for mechanical thrombectomy. The trust has consistently maintained a high rating for its SSNAP score and is proud of its rating for thrombolysis and diagnostics. Key Duties of the Post
1. Working with colleagues at both St. Marys Hospital and the Queen Alexandra Hospital, contribute to the delivery of a comprehensive and high-quality Hyper-acute, Acute and Stroke Rehabilitation Service.
2. Manage their time and prioritise and time-manage effectively in response to departmental activity. Take a critical approach to own medical practice, looking for opportunities to make improvements in the care of patients and share with others.
3. Responsible for the diagnosis and treatment of patients who present with Stroke and Stroke mimic symptoms and appropriate referral to other clinical and non-clinical colleagues including primary care colleagues, as appropriate.
4. Manage hyper acute Stroke including the delivery of thrombolysis to patients in line with protocols.
5. Undertake trans-ischaemic and outpatient clinics and ward work as per job plan collaborating with colleagues in relation to progressing patient care from admission to discharge.
6. Participating in multi-disciplinary meetings as scheduled in the job plan.
7. Undertake the clinical supervision of junior medical and other clinical staff sharing specialist knowledge and expertise.
8. Engage in medical audit and other clinical effectiveness activities, the Trusts Clinical Governance processes and in CPD is provided in job plans and attendance at audit and other governance meetings is mandatory.
9. Work collaboratively with multi-disciplinary colleagues across the Partnership to deliver effective clinical care, looking for continuous improvement in line with clinical strategy.
10. Contribute to existing research projects and clinical trials undertaken within the service.
11. Providing cover for colleagues annual leave and other authorised absences as appropriate.

Qualifications
Essential
* Full GMC Registration with a license to practice
* MRCP (UK) or overseas equivalent
* Relevant training in Stroke Medicine and Hyper Acute Stroke Care
* Knowledge and application of up to date evidence based practice
Experience
Essential
* Minimum of 12 years' medical work (either continuous or aggregate) since obtaining a primary medical qualification, of which a minimum of 6 years should have been in a relevant specialty in the Specialty Doctor and/or closed SAS grades OR equivalent years' experience in a relevant specialty from other medical grades including overseas.
* Relevant specialties are Stroke Medicine, Geriatric Medicine, General Medicine or Neurology.
* Fully competent in diagnostic and therapeutic management of acute strokes including Thrombolysis
* Experience in Postgraduate teaching
* Knowledge of current trends in specialty
