We are St Helens Borough Council
Working at St Helens Borough Council.
St Helens is a transformational Council which is passionate and ambitious for the communities we support. We provide a wide range of local authority services to the residents, businesses, schools, and visitors to the borough.
We can only do this because of our highly valued, highly skilled workforce.
Working together, our workplace vision and values guide our organisation, and the contribution of our workforce is key to our culture journey. Employees with us receive a wide range of benefits including well-being in work, financial benefits, ways of working and learning and development support.
Making A Difference as a Mobile Caretaker in Schools Traded Services
With responsibility for the care, security and operational effectiveness in our teams, our Caretakers have a very important role in supporting our schools.
The hours of work are 37 per week, Monday to Friday, split shifts. Your times of work will be between the hours of 0600 and 1800, dependent upon the School / Council building you will be required to work.
Our Caretakers undertake a wide variety of tasks and responsibilities including:
1. Being key holders
2. Organising contractors to carry out repairs
3. Storage of cleaning equipment
4. Ventilation management
5. Grounds maintenance
6. Cleaning duties such as sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, buffing, etc.
The successful candidate will be required to undertake training, for example, manual handling, ladder training, electrical awareness, and any other in-house training that is required.
Our Caretakers need to demonstrate good working practices in the cleaning sector and be able to work with safe working practices, utilising their knowledge of health and safety procedures and hazards.
Our Caretakers are responsible for the care and security of the school premises, which will include opening and closing. The Caretaker will also be responsible for alarm response (out of hours), which will be paid at the appropriate rate for call outs. You may, from time to time, be required to work overtime for after school activities, for which the appropriate rate of pay will be paid.
Good communication skills and the ability to handle situations sensitively are essential. Organisation is important for our Caretakers, whether that be for the organisation of work with and through others, or for completing routine paperwork.
This Authority is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. This post is subject to Enhanced DBS Disclosure.
St Helens Council is a Disability Confident Leader. This means that the Council guarantees an interview to disabled applicants who demonstrate that they meet the essential criteria for the job, as detailed on the Person Specification, and will, for qualifying disabled candidates, make reasonable adjustments within the interview/selection process.
Equality & Diversity
St Helens Borough Council respects and values the individuality that every employee brings. We encourage applicants from diverse backgrounds, who share our values, our commitment to inclusion, and who will help us on our journey to transform our organisation.
