SEMH Teaching Assistant – Full-Time Role in Levenshulme Teaching Personnel is seeking a SEMH (Social, Emotional, and Mental Health) Teaching Assistant to join an Ofsted-rated "Good" secondary school in Levenshulme. This is a full-time position starting in January and running until the end of the academic year, with the opportunity to transition to a permanent role depending on performance. The role offers a competitive pay range of £419.25 to £500 per week. Role Overview The SEMH Teaching Assistant will work closely with students facing social, emotional, and mental health challenges, helping them to access education and achieve their potential within a nurturing and supportive environment. Key Responsibilities One-to-One Support : Work with individual students who require focused support to overcome barriers related to SEMH. Small Group Interventions : Facilitate group sessions aimed at developing social skills, emotional resilience, and self-regulation. Classroom Assistance : Support the teacher in creating an inclusive learning environment, adapting tasks to meet the needs of students with SEMH challenges. Behavioural Support : Implement strategies to de-escalate challenging behaviours and encourage positive engagement with school life. Pastoral Support : Act as a trusted adult for students, providing a listening ear and promoting their emotional well-being. Collaboration with Staff : Work closely with teachers, SENCOs, and pastoral teams to develop and implement individualised support plans. Progress Monitoring : Maintain accurate records of student progress, challenges, and interventions, providing regular feedback to staff and parents/carers. The Ideal Candidate Experience in SEMH Support : Previous experience supporting students with SEMH needs, either in an educational or care setting, is highly desirable. Empathy and Resilience : A compassionate and patient approach, combined with the ability to remain calm and resourceful in challenging situations. Understanding of SEMH Needs : Knowledge of how social, emotional, and mental health difficulties impact learning and strategies to address them effectively. Strong Communication Skills : The ability to build trusting relationships with students, staff, and families. Adaptable and Flexible : Ready to tailor support to individual student needs and adapt to dynamic classroom environments. Qualifications : A background in psychology, education, or youth work is advantageous, though not essential.
