Job summary
We provide support to children aged 0 - 18 years with complex medical needs ranging from epilepsy, gastrostomy care, tracheotomy care, ventilator dependency, learning disability, communication and mobility support needs.
The residential house is well-equipped with 6 bedrooms that are all decorated to the taste of the child or young person that lives there.

To be successful in the Support Worker role, you will not necessarily need experience in complex health support but have a willingness to learn. You will be trained to care for children with complex medical needs by a highly experienced Nurse, who will offer ongoing support.
About us
The Courtyard Courtyard Care, is a small purpose-built bungalow for children with complex medical needs, with life limiting illnesses. The support team are trained to look after children who may have a tracheostomy tube, require long term ventilation, epilepsy, physio, gastronomes, and other medical needs.
The Children's Clinical Support Worker/Carer will carry out a range of interventions involving delivery of care tasks such as intimate personal care, clinical tasks and general support to the children/young people which will be of the highest possible standard, provide support to promote their independence and ensure continuity of care in accordance with Courtyard Care Ltd policies and procedures.

Job responsibilities
The Courtyard Care Ltd will endeavor to provide a family orientated, negotiated care packageto meet the individual needs of all the children and young people in our care. The supportworker will undertake a wide range of skills which will involve direct and indirect care of childrenwho have complex health needs which could include health needs, mental health needs,autistic spectrum disorder and associated learning disability within Courtyard Care Ltd homes.The support worker will carry out a range of interventions involving delivery of care to thechildren/young people which will be of the highest possible standard, provide support to thechildren/young people to promote their independence and ensure continuity of care inaccordance with Courtyard Care Ltd policies and procedures.To ensure consistency of care all support worker will be expected to work shifts and be flexibleto meet the needs of the children and fulfill all health and safety requirements. Whilst thefollowing pages are highlighted the main tasks and responsibilities of the post holder, they arenot exhaustive and may differ within different homes.

Role and Function:
1. To support the Registered Manager and staff team in giving the highest standard of carepossible to all the children/young people at Courtyard Care Ltd
2. To act as a member of the team and assist the management staff in giving the higheststandard of care possible to all the children within the Courtyard Care Ltd, closely followingindividual plans, risk assessments and programmes in place.
3. To understand the importance of the need for confidentiality in all client matters at all times.
4. To assist in creating a safe, clean, and secure environment for all children within CourtyardCare Ltd, relatives and colleagues, working with the staff team to cover their duties whenon leave or off sick.
5. To take individual/group responsibility in ensuring the running of the home is to its highestpossible standard.
6. To work in a variety of settings if needed, in order to support the children/young people, within their home and educational environments and on activities.
7. To develop skills in order that the child/young peoples individual health/social andemotional development needs are met.
8. To provide support, advice and information to the children/young people, parents and othercarers as required.
9. To transport and/or escort the children/young people as required.
10. Once trained to provide and carry out clinical duties necessary to meet the child/youngpersons health / emotional needs on a daily basis.

12. To adhere to the activities programme to ensure the children/young people receive avariety of daily stimulation and development suitable to their needs.

Communication:
16. Complete clearly written, accurate, contemporaneous record of involvement withchildren and their families.
17. To participate in play and stimulation activities in line with individual plans.
18. Report any unusual occurrence in the childs condition or behavior to the shift leaderor where relevant the on-call person.
19. Answer the telephone and act in a polite, professional manner.
20. Take clear concise messages for the Manager and ensure they are passed on in atimely manner.
21. Ensure daily log/diary is adhere to and completed.
22. Take part in daily/shift handover.
23. To work as a team member in evaluating ongoing individual work with the children,forming plans, risk assessments and monitoring the outcomes.
24. To be aware of the health, emotional, psychological, and social needs of the childrenand their families.
25. To demonstrate empathy and sensitivity to others that is non-judgmental and showsrespect for their beliefs, values and culture and the impact of any related complexneeds.
26. Adhere to Intensive Interaction policy and procedure where necessary.
27. Refer to memo file daily
28. Take responsibility to keep up to date with all relevant plans for children and youngpeople and to read over files when returning from any absences
29. Refer to key-worker communication section, or document in it and to pass messageson to key-worker on a daily basis
30. To attend ALL staff meetings and any extra responsibility meetings relevant to yourpost holder role.
31. Work collaboratively only under clear instruction from the management team with otherservice providers within work environments that do not fall under the management ofCourtyard Care Ltd.
32. Use appropriate methods and language to communicate in a succinct and clearmanner, to listen and take account of others views and needs. Show understandingand use logic to communicate.
33. Implement and use appropriate methods of communication to provide consistency,structure and predictability encouraging positive engagement with all children/youngpeople.
Legal and Ethic:
34. To know the importance of parental involvement in decision making and the legalrequirements regarding parental consent.
35. Have knowledge of the rights of the child in conjunction with Childrens Regulationsand Quality Standards, Every Child Matters, and the importance of giving theminformation according to their level of understanding.

Training:

44. Maintain personal responsibility for personal training, attending sessions and beingprofessionally updated.
45. To support staff during induction and orientation in a positive manner.
46. To complete all training ensuring you achieve competence within your area.

General:
48. Be responsible for promoting ongoing improvements in the overall successful runningof Courtyard Care Ltd. All annual leave will be booked in accordance with CourtyardCare Ltd Policy and accurate records to support the Registered Manager.
49. Ensure appropriate procedures are in place for evacuating the home in case of a fireand up to date records are in place.
50. Any sickness should be conducted as per policy and a back to work form must becompleted on return to work. Any sickness must be reported to either management orthe senior member of staff on shift.
51. Work as an effective member of a multi-disciplinary team creating positive workingrelationships.
52. All staff must report on duty at commencement time of shift, any lateness must bedocumented on the rota by senior member of staff or management and in the daily log.
