We are seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join a thriving and supportive educational setting in Portsmouth, working with children who have moderate to complex needs.
About the Role:
As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will play a crucial role in supporting children with a wide range of needs, including but not limited to, learning difficulties, physical disabilities, communication challenges, and social-emotional needs. Your primary focus will be to assist the classroom teacher in delivering tailored lessons and interventions that help each child reach their full potential in a supportive, inclusive, and nurturing environment.
Key Responsibilities:
* Support children on a 1:1 basis or in small groups, adapting teaching methods and resources to meet their individual learning needs.
* Help implement personal care plans and assist with mobility or physical tasks where required.
* Support students with communication difficulties using alternative methods of communication, such as sign language or communication aids.
* Assist with social and emotional development, encouraging positive behavior and ensuring the students' well-being.
* Provide feedback on student progress to the classroom teacher, helping to monitor and record academic and personal achievements.
* Work closely with other professionals, such as speech and language therapists, occupational therapists, and educational psychologists.
* Support classroom management and promote an inclusive atmosphere where all students feel safe, respected, and engaged.
About You:
* Experience: Previous experience working with children or adults with special educational needs, particularly those with moderate to complex needs, is highly desirable.
* Knowledge: A good understanding of SEN provisions, the challenges students may face, and strategies to support their learning and development.
* Qualifications: While formal qualifications in education or SEN are preferred, candidates with relevant experience and a passion for supporting children's education are encouraged to apply.
* Skills: Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to engage and motivate students effectively. Patience, empathy, and a genuine desire to make a difference in the lives of children with additional needs are essential.
