Position Summary:
We are seeking a highly experienced and effective Director of Engineering to lead and drive the software development and delivery for multiple engineering teams. As a decisive and hands-on leader, you will be responsible for ensuring that engineering teams are aligned with business objectives and delivering exceptional results. This role demands strong leadership, a customer-centric mindset, and the ability to manage and develop high-performing engineering teams. The Director of Engineering will work collaboratively across teams and functions to support company goals and foster an environment of continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Lead Software Development and Delivery: Own the software development lifecycle for products, ensuring alignment with corporate and divisional goals. Oversee the delivery of high-quality software that meets customer needs and expectations.
2. Team Leadership and Development: Manage, develop, and motivate engineering teams to deliver results. Ensure the teams have the right skills, support, and resources to succeed. Foster a culture of collaboration and high performance across teams.
3. Customer-Centric Engineering: Promote a customer-first mindset within the engineering teams, ensuring that customer feedback is incorporated into product development and that teams respond to issues promptly and effectively.
4. Budget and Investment Management: Oversee the engineering budget, ensuring strategic investments are made in the right areas to support team growth and skill development. Make decisions on resource allocation and recruitment.
5. Agile Methodology: Lead the adoption and continuous improvement of Agile methodologies within engineering teams. Ensure that teams deliver software in an iterative and efficient manner, focused on incremental customer value.
6. Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with divisional heads and other stakeholders to align engineering efforts with broader company goals, contributing to product strategy, quality control, and cost management.
7. Operational Excellence: Drive operational efficiency through best practices in software development and agile processes. Ensure engineering teams are equipped to deliver high-quality, reliable software on time and within budget.
8. Performance Reporting and Metrics: Own the performance reporting for the engineering teams, providing visibility into their progress and outcomes. Ensure that key performance indicators (KPIs) are met and that continuous improvement is achieved.

Skills, Knowledge, and Experience:
1. Leadership Experience: 10+ years of experience in leading multiple engineering teams across different geographies and driving positive change in a matrixed environment.
2. Technical Expertise: Strong technical background with hands-on experience in software development, coding, and software architecture. Ability to provide direction and support to teams on technical decisions, ensuring high standards for performance, maintainability, and quality.
3. Excellent Communication Skills: Proven ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to non-technical stakeholders and lead teams effectively. Able to engage at all levels of the organization and adopt a consultative approach.
4. Strategic Thinking: Ability to think strategically and align engineering objectives with the wider company strategy. Demonstrated success in driving results while considering long-term goals.
5. Agile and SDLC Expertise: Deep understanding of Agile methodologies, software development lifecycle, and project management. Able to lead teams through complex projects with multiple workstreams, ensuring timely and quality delivery.
6. Commercial Acumen: Experience in managing budgets, tracking investments, and prioritizing resources based on ROI. Ability to make data-driven decisions that align with business objectives.
7. Customer Focus: A strong customer-centric mindset, ensuring that engineering teams deliver high-quality releases that meet customer needs. Focused on frequent, meaningful delivery and continuous improvement.
