Yellowback is a growing editorial and publishing services company based in Canterbury, UK. A small, born digital and exciting organisation, Yellowback has a team spread across the UK and Europe and works with clients internationally. A large part of its business is managing the peer review process for scholarly journals. Yellowback is currently seeking a new, full-time academic journal administrator to join on a fully remote home-working contract.
Academic journal administrators support the administration and peer review process of academic journals to ensure the high-quality, timely publication of research articles. The hours are adaptable with some restrictions dependent on client needs. The work is remote and home based with occasional meetings virtually or in person.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
* Using web-based peer review management software (e.g., ScholarOne Manuscripts, Editorial Manager) to facilitate the peer review process.
* Performing administrative and production checks on submitted and accepted manuscripts, including light copyediting as needed.
* Supporting authors, reviewers and editors to ensure efficient peer review.
* Managing busy journal inboxes and answering queries.
* Checking proofs before publication.
* Supporting related journal activities such as editorial board meetings and social media.

Essential criteria
* Proven administrative or editorial work experience.
* Excellent reading and writing skills in English.
* Proficient in the use of web browsers and standard software such as Microsoft Office.
* Confidence learning new databases and email programmes.
* Time management skills, self-motivation and ability to prioritise tasks.
* Fast typing speed.
* Great interpersonal skills to develop effective working relationships quickly in a remote context.
* Ability to communicate clearly and efficiently by email and phone.
* Ability to exercise discretion and recognise the importance of confidentiality.
* Attention to detail.
Desirable criteria
* Honours degree.
* Experience using ScholarOne Manuscripts, Editorial Manager and/or other peer review management software.
* Understanding and/or experience of academic publishing and peer review processes.
