Amending the articles of association (remotely) to meet neurodiversity needs. These changes are vital for ensuring an effective and sustainable working environment for my disabilities ahead of approaching an additional director. What difference will you make? Dear potential ally, I’m a neurodiverse multidisciplinary artist. The Articles of Association are a professional barrier for me (e.g., legal language, complex neuro-typical written communication, ridge structures etc), and one that reflects a broader issue in society of passive discrimination faced by neurodiverse individuals, particularly those on the autism spectrum, with literacy disabilities. This type of barrier is a normalised systemic feature of our society that contributes to the high number of employment exclusions, financial hardship and compromised emotional and mental health amongst the neurodiverse community. With the support of your skill set in ensuring the Articles of Association are amended in a neurodiverse needs centred way you are offering an allyship in helping dismantle an inequality. Your allyship is a critical element of positive systemic change. Written communication is my major disability so I’d be very grateful if you’d watch the short overview of the project that I’ve attached in the PDF via a hyperlink, which will give you an insight into the work I’m doing, attempting to turn the tide on the suicide crisis. I’m currently wishing for your support in using your skill set in order to expand the project to all four nations of the UK. Kindest wishes, Laura What are we looking for? Experience with the process of amending the articles of association and the governance of a CIC. Experience with funding bodies such as the Arts Councils of the four nations of the UK would also be incredibly helpful but not necessary. What will you be doing? Amendments needed Asset Lock To eventually transition to a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO), with proper provisions in place for when the C.IC matures. Paid Mentorship roles for the Additional Directors (to ensure support and guidance). I will be the Primary decision-maker In the early stages, I will hold the main decision-making authority to ensure the direction aligns with my neurodiversity needs and the projects objectives. Accessible meeting processes, such as using recordings for minutes, ensuring accessibility for neurodiverse individuals. One-to-one meeting formats (instead of large group meetings, to align with neurodiversity needs. No annual general meeting (to avoid a structure that might be overwhelming and inaccessible to neurodiverse individuals). A thorough check through all the clauses, and possibly assistance through easier to understand descriptions to ensure I fully understand what I’m committing to.
