Job Description:
In this role, you will oversee the development, editing, and refinement of all content across our website, ensuring that it aligns with accessibility requirements, our brand voice, standards, and strategic objectives.
The Senior Content Editor is a key member of the editorial team responsible for leading content production, maintaining editorial quality, and mentoring junior editors and writers. This role involves a hands-on approach to editing, proofreading, and refining content to ensure clarity, consistency, and excellence. The Senior Content Editor will collaborate with cross-functional teams to craft compelling content that engages audiences and meets business goals.
Main Duties:
1. Oversee the development, editing, and refinement of all content across our website, ensuring alignment with accessibility requirements, brand voice, standards, and strategic objectives.
2. Lead content production, maintain editorial quality, and mentor junior editors and writers.
3. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to craft compelling content that engages audiences and meets business goals.
The candidate should:
* Have a thorough understanding of WCAG AA 2.2 accessibility standards and how to implement this in website content.
* The ability to review and edit content for grammar, style, tone, accuracy and brand guidelines, as well as to meet accessibility requirements.
* Work closely with teams to ensure content aligns with organisational goals, SEO best practice and audience needs.
* Provide editorial guidance and feedback to junior editors and writers.
* Oversee quality assurance processes, including consistency checks and proofreading to ensure all deliverables meet high standards.
* Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop content suitable for audiences.
* Review and optimise workflows to improve efficiency, productivity and content quality.
* Take the lead in reviewing and approving final drafts before publication.
Essential Skills & Experience:
* Proven Experience: 4+ years of experience in content editing, with a focus on websites, wider digital media, marketing, or journalism.
* Strong understanding of accessibility requirements, specifically WCAG AA 2.2.
* Exceptional Writing and Editing Skills: Strong attention to detail and the ability to refine content for clarity, tone, grammar, and structure.
* Project Management: Experience managing multiple content projects simultaneously, with the ability to meet deadlines and prioritise tasks effectively.
* Leadership and Mentorship: Experience managing or mentoring junior team members and providing constructive feedback to improve content quality.
* Strong Understanding of SEO: Knowledge of SEO principles and how to optimise content for search engines while maintaining readability and engagement.
* Content Management Systems (CMS): Proficiency in CMS platform Umbraco (or other similar) and basic HTML knowledge.
* Collaboration Skills: Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams, including designers, marketers, and product teams.
* Analytical Skills: Ability to assess content performance using analytics tools (e.g., Google Analytics) and use insights to improve content strategies.
Desirable Skills:
* Leadership in Editorial Strategy: Experience in leading editorial strategy and content development for large-scale projects or organisations.
* Advanced SEO Knowledge: Experience with advanced SEO techniques, such as keyword research, link-building, and content optimisation strategies.
