Operations Director – Cost & Commercial Management – Corporate Real Estate

Working as part of our Workplace sector team, this opportunity will support and grow our cost & commercial management services, including Capital Planning, for one of our financial services clients. This position has the potential to be a seconded client-side role.

The project:
Our client is a global bank with corporate real estate (CRE) operations in more than 60 countries including c270 office buildings and c2,500 branches. Their ambition for the CRE function is to be trusted advisers to their global businesses and functions, helping them to balance service, cost, and risk. This they plan to accomplish through working with key strategic industry partners to bring innovation and new working practices to their workplace. Mace is one of the strategic industry partners with a specific remit for an independent project management office (IPMO). The client’s vision for the IPMO is that it will represent the client across all CRE towers & with key internal stakeholders. The IPMO responsibilities will include: driving the client CRE strategy, assurance delivery & compliance, performance management, planning & capital management, commercial management, design & engineering standards, implementation of a suite of digital tools.
This role is embedded within the client organization requiring attendance in the office on 3 days per week. The location of the role is London.
Your responsibilities will include:
1. Lead Cost and Commercial Management service offering including Capital Planning, Governance and Assurance responsibilities for the allocated client account.
2. Develop, implement, and maintain standards across relevant subject matters.
3. Take lead in developing, implementing, and maintaining bespoke benchmarking.
4. Produce and manage cost advice and estimate, take ownership and confidently present the outputs to Clients.
5. Identify opportunities and efficiencies within capital plan and procurement methodologies.
6. Take lead on and manage the procurement process.
7. Act as the client interface, delivering on client objectives, and adding value to the service offering.
8. Interact regularly with client(s) to ensure that goals and objectives are established and achieved.
9. Responsible for fee budgeting, forecasting and reporting on relevant client account.
10. Manage team members across all grades.
11. Peer review and regular auditing of project performance at project and portfolio level.
12. Training and upskilling of delivery teams.
13. Stakeholder management - both up and downstream reporting/presentation to senior stakeholders including Head of Construction, Regional CFO.
14. Knowledge sharing and industry best practice.
Your knowledge, experience and skills need to include:
1. Experience in managing cost & commercial management, assurance, governance, and capital planning.
2. Awareness of different forms of contracts.
3. Effectively handle and analyse large data with confidence.
4. Ability to solve advanced problems and deal with a variety of options in complex situations. Requires analytical skills with proven experience in developing strategic solutions.
5. Experience across EMEA markets.
6. Good understanding of industry best practice.
7. Understanding of hot topic issues such as Sustainability, Social Value, Carbon Reduction.
8. Capex V Opex Cost Analysis/advice.
Qualifications:
1. A degree in quantity surveying/cost management or equivalent.
2. Professional membership i.e. MRICS/RICS (Not Essential).
