The Head of Aircraft Operations provides strong leadership and support to the Aircraft Operations (AcO) Team. Ensure that the aircraft operation meets its obligations in terms of regulatory and statutory requirements. Drive continuous improvement to ensure that the aircraft operations is delivering excellent customer service; operational, safety, quality performance, whilst adopting environmentally sustainable working practices.
Main Tasks and Responsibilities:
1. Delivering periodic monthly, quarterly and annual departmental performance reports to the Board and various airport committees. Owns the measurement and reporting of AcO and Jet Centre Operations performance against agreed safety and compliance KPIs.
2. Managing AcO Team to deliver a safe, compliant, and efficient operation; work with internal and external stakeholders to maintain the existing airfield infrastructure.
3. Develop and implement departmental strategies and strategic initiatives for AcO team.
4. Recruitment, management, training, development and welfare of the AcO team, whilst providing leadership and direction to the team. This includes influencing the team, monitoring performance, approval of annual leave requests and conducting regular appraisals with direct reports.
5. Oversee the department budget process and ensure that AcO Operations have adequate cost controls in place. Play significant role to plan annual departmental budget in accordance with Finance department's timescales and support.
6. Develop and maintain a consultative and collaborative relationship with regulatory bodies such as the DfT, IATA, CAA, EASA, ISO and the HSE; using this partnership to improve working practices and always meet compliance.
7. Supporting Aerodrome operations team to compliance of the Aerodrome license, as required by the CAA and all relevant ICAO and CAA documentation with support of Compliance team. Ensure AcO team is working in accordance with CAA, DfT and IATA guidelines as specified in the Aircraft Operations Ramp Services manual and other supporting documentation.
8. Ensure the safe and timely co-ordination of aircraft turn-rounds.
9. Support for the safe throughput of aircraft movements by liaising with the Operations teams, ATC, ARFFS, AAIB, Meteorological Offices, Airlines and Police, including during periods of adverse weather, equipment un-serviceability, incidents and emergencies and any other major disruption.
10. Lead a designated team (with support of Aircraft Operations Planning Manager) of Ground Services personnel in carrying out their duties, playing a full role within the team and taking responsibility for key duties in baggage sortation and delivery, the loading/unloading of aircraft, marshalling, chocking, connection of ground power and pre-departure checks and start-ups, including the use of headsets.
11. Build strong business relationships with all other functional and operational teams.
12. Where required, influence, effect and drive change, to meet the demands of the AcO Operations and business requirements, promoting effective communication both internally and externally on all matters relating to the AcO ensuring collaborations between all stakeholders.
13. Embrace and embed a safety, quality, security, environmental work culture across all areas of responsibility, influencing a step change in safety integration; ensuring that the team meets regulatory and statutory requirements in regards, HR, Safety, Quality, Security & Environment in accordance with LCY Policies and Procedures.
14. Responsible for the risk register for the Aircraft Operations department, ensuring it is up to date and reflects an accurate view of the AcO department risks. Ensure any hazards or unsafe acts are reported through the Accident and Safety reporting scheme and to the relevant managers.
15. Communicate effectively with key business partners and customers on subjects within the above responsibilities, ensuring that appropriate demands and expectations are managed and achieved.
16. Health and Safety Responsibilities: Line management is responsible for health and safety performance and the implementation of corporate health and safety policy, arrangements and procedures. Generally, where a manager or supervisor has an operational responsibility for the organisation or control of any Airport undertaking or activity, he/she also carries the responsibility for doing all within his/her authority to ensure an acceptable level of health and safety during the conduct of that undertaking or activity. Specific health and safety roles and responsibilities have been assigned to various posts and these are included in the roles and responsibilities section within the Health and Safety Manual and Roles and Responsibilities Policy.
17. Sharing best practice across industry sectors and learning and implementing lessons from relevant incidents in other organisations, are important to maintain the currency of corporate knowledge and competence.
