We are looking for an enthusiastic and proactive Registered Veterinary Nurse to join our expanding and friendly team on a part time basis. This role is aimed at a qualified RVN who is happy to jump into a busy practice but an SVN who is near the end of their training would also be considered.
We are a 6 vet practice supported by 5 RVNs, 1 permanent SVN, and 2 Nursing Assistants, along with placement students and our 6 Client Care Advisors and Practice Manager.
We are a dynamic practice with medicine, imaging, and surgery certificate holders amongst our vets, aiming to offer a very high standard of care for our patients across a wide range of cases. We have facilities to support this with laparoscopic surgery, endoscopy, high-quality ultrasound, dental x-ray, ECG, doppler ultrasound, capnography, pulse oximetry, and k-laser. We perform a full range of orthopaedic and soft tissue surgeries, including TPLO’s and BOAS surgeries, and have a high rabbit/small furry caseload compared to many practices.
Our nursing team is involved in these cases, providing significant opportunities to scrub into theatre, assist with complex anaesthetics, and help with medical investigations and inpatient care, along with a range of nurse clinic appointments. The rota is currently shared equally between the nurses with your own consulting, inpatient, and surgical days.
We would be happy to provide training where necessary and would not expect a new member of the team to be familiar with all the procedures immediately. We support all team members with opportunities for further development.
This role is part time, ideally 25-30 hours a week. You will become part of a weekend rota (Saturday 8.30 am - 6 pm and Sunday 9.30 am - 4 pm) of 1 in 8. Bank holidays are worked as part of a fair rota throughout the year. There is no OOH or on-call.
Some of your key responsibilities will include:
1. Working closely with the clinical and non-clinical teams to deliver the best levels of patient and customer care, taking full ownership of tasks and responsibilities
2. Manage and deal with bookings professionally and efficiently using RX Works
3. Greet clients and their pets for appointments, being sensitive to their requirements and promoting a professional image at all times
4. Comply with all policies and procedures within the surgery, including Health and Safety Regulations
5. Calculate and administer medications and keep accurate records
6. Assist the Veterinary Surgeon during surgical procedures
7. Prepare, identify, and record results from radiography equipment
Person Specification
You will have excellent customer service and communication skills, be an effective team player, and able to use your own initiative when required. You are friendly, down-to-earth, have a genuine interest in animal welfare, and enjoy the variety provided by the clients and colleagues alike.
Benefits
In return for your dedication and high-quality work, we can offer:
1. Starting salary £15.14 per hour, dependent on experience. Salary review every April
2. Generous CPD allowance and support
3. Enhanced pension scheme
4. Paid memberships (RCVS, BVNA, etc.)
5. Enhanced holiday allowance of 6.6 weeks
6. Extra day off for your birthday
7. Enhanced maternity/paternity/adoption leave
8. Option for heavily subsidised private healthcare
9. Exclusive company discounts and rewards including 20% off at Vets4Pets, Pets at Home, and the Groom Room
