The Art department at Stonyhurst is an innovative and creative space which capitalises on the beauty all around us at Stonyhurst, and benefits from the wonderful historical artefacts and paintings which we are privileged to hold in our historic collections.
The department is comprised of teachers with specialisms in fine art, textiles and photography. Pupils are encouraged to express themselves through a variety of media: drawing, painting, printmaking, sculpture/3D design, ceramics, textiles and digital photography.
There are five classrooms where pupils have dedicated workspaces with access to a wide range of resources. With a focus on artistic exploration and rigorous technical guidance, our pupils are encouraged to push creative boundaries through risk taking, experimentation and observation of the visual world.
Art is an important part of our curriculum offer at Stonyhurst and academic results at all levels are strong. The department teaches art from year 7 to year 13, offering GCSEs (AQA), A levels (AQA) and the IBDP Visual Arts course.
The Art department also has a key role in our co-curricular programme, so that pupils who are not studying art courses as academic disciplines may also benefit from the inspiration and creative practices of our outstanding team of teachers and practitioners.
