Are you an experienced RMN (Registered Mental Health Nurse) looking to advance and diversify your career? An exciting opportunity has arisen for two motivated and exceptional individuals to join us for an innovative role as Site Mental Health Lead Nurse. Barking Havering and Redbridge University Hospital has two main sites, King George Hospital in Goodmayes and Queens Hospital in Romford. These exciting new roles will have a Mental Health Enhanced Therapeutic Team on each site, each managed by a Site Mental Health Lead Nurse. This is an exciting and diverse role for an individual who is passionate about providing excellent quality nursing care. You will have the privilege to influence and shape the provision of high-quality mental health care to some of society's most vulnerable members.
Main duties of the job
You will support the Deputy Chief Nurses and Clinical Groups Director of Nursing in developing and implementing a mental health strategy across the organisation, with effective policies and procedures to support high quality and safe mental health care within the Trust.
You will devise and implement a confident, safe, holistic approach to mental health care and risk management in the general hospital setting, promoting understanding and effective support for patients with mental health needs and co-morbid physical health problems, working in partnership with the Psychiatric Liaison Service (PLS) and Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS) crisis teams.
You will be practicing autonomously as an advanced mental health practitioner within acute services to provide patient-centred quality care. This will encompass the skills of providing clinical leadership within the Trust to support activities such as safeguarding the patients with mental health needs (adults and children) and ensuring patients have timely treatment and effective management plans. The ability to challenge stigmatising practice or culture towards patients with mental health needs will be essential.
You will support clinical teams and contribute to facilitating inpatient care pathways delivering comprehensive assessments in conjunction with other team members to allow patients to be safely managed and risk assessed appropriately to improve inpatient care and facilitate safe discharge.
About us
We're an organisation that is getting better and better. We were the most improved Trust in England for A&E performance in 2023/24 we're no longer in special measures and Matthew Trainer, our Chief Executive, has been named the top CEO by the Health Service Journal. Our improvements are driven by a determination to deliver care we're proud of and that our patients are happy with.
Many of our 8,000 staff - who come from 146 different countries - live in the three diverse London boroughs we serve and the majority are from black, Asian and minority ethnic groups. More than 400 of them are on apprenticeship programmes and we're proud to be a London Living Wage employer.
We operate from two main sites - King George Hospital (KGH) in Goodmayes and Queen's Hospital in Romford. We have two of the busiest emergency departments in London - more than 300,000 people visited our A&Es in 2023.
Patients across north east London are benefitting from two new state of the art theatres at KGH and our Community Diagnostic Centres at Barking Community Hospital and St George's Health and Wellbeing Hub will significantly increase the number of scans that can be carried out.
We're looking forward to introducing an electronic patient record next year. This will mean the records of any patient visiting one of the seven hospitals run by BHRUT and Barts Health will be accessible to the clinical teams. It'll make things easier for staff and will be better for patients.
