Purpose of the job
To support the delivery and development of projects within the Yorkshire Forest District.
Background to the role
Yorkshire Forest District has an ambitious programme of projects to deliver Forestry England’s strategy. The role will support the delivery and development of a wide range of projects, in areas such as recreation, community engagement and nature recovery.
The Project Officer will work closely with district and national staff. The role will cover projects across the district and report to the Funding & Development Manager. This is an exciting opportunity to support on a variety of projects across the district and develop project management skills.
The role will be based in the Yorkshire Forest District, based in Pickering with flexibility for some optional blended working (see details below). Please be aware that this role can only be worked in the UK and not overseas.
The Project Officer will implement a wide range of projects across the district, key work areas may include:
Providing project management of smaller multi-discipline projects in line with Forestry England guidance. This will include:
* Supporting and building a project team.
* Understanding the scope of the project.
* Completing procurement exercises.
* Developing programmes/ timescales.
* Monitoring budgets.
* Monitoring and reporting on objectives.
Providing project management support on larger schemes including managing and maintaining project systems e.g., action logs, dashboards, claims & reporting processes.
Liaising and maintaining good working relationships with colleagues locally, across Forestry England and wider stakeholders, to gain understanding and sharing knowledge to obtain improvement/efficiency.
Supporting the preparation of business cases in line with the Forestry England Business case guidance.
Gathering and analysing relevant data in order to assess options and present recommendations which will inform project development pipelines and business cases. For example:
* SWOT analyses for multiple sites where there may be future recreation/commercial opportunities.
* Organising the collection of car parking data to support business cases.
* Gathering information to support external funding bids.
