Job Summary
We are looking to recruit a supportive care dietitian to join the team based in the Oncology Department of Derriford Hospital. The post-holder will be expected to manage their own caseload in both inpatient and outpatient settings, supervise the work of dietetic assistants, students, and junior dietitians as appropriate, and contribute to resource management. You will be supported by a friendly team and have the opportunity to develop your skills.
Main duties of the job
* To provide a specialist dietetic service to patients within the Enhanced Supportive Care service at the Trust, including inpatient, outpatient, and contributing to the multidisciplinary team.
* To be a source of expertise in the dietetic management of palliative cancer patients, including lung and upper GI/HPB patients within the Trust.
* To support and supervise junior staff within the department as required and contribute to the training of students and other healthcare professionals.

Job Responsibilities
* To manage a specialist caseload of patients referred to the Enhanced Supportive Care service within the Trust and contribute to the multidisciplinary team.
* To act as a clinical resource, providing specialist knowledge to members of the dietetic department on Nutrition Support.
* To provide expert advice to patients on an inpatient or outpatient basis as required, and by telephone contact if appropriate to review management.
* To attend weekly MDT meetings.
* Undertake nutritional assessment, dietary review (where appropriate), and design nutrition care plans considering anthropometry, biochemistry, pharmacology, and medical history.
* To maintain accurate and timely dietetic records in the patient records in line with national and local record-keeping standards.
* To work cooperatively with other professionals to ensure delivery of coordinated multidisciplinary service to patients requiring nutrition support.
* To communicate effectively with patients and carers to maximize disease management.
Person Specification
Knowledge & Experience
Essential
* Demonstrable experience in clinical dietetics within the NHS, particularly nutrition support in oncology.
* Proven clinical knowledge of nutrition support.
* Demonstrable training, supervisory, and teaching experience.
* Demonstrable experience of working in a multidisciplinary team.
* Demonstrable experience in audit, standard setting, and guideline.
Qualifications
Essential
* BSc in Human Nutrition and Dietetics or equivalent.
* Professional registration (HCPC).
* Proven evidence of recent CPD.
Aptitude & Abilities
Essential
* Effective communication skills with an ability to communicate with all levels of healthcare personnel.
* Able to work within a team.
* Proven expertise in the practical skills of nutritional support.
* Effective teaching and presentation skills.
* Good organisational and time management/prioritisation skills.
