As Product Director you will be: Charged with building accurate and relevant product insight, shaping a long-term product roadmap and delivering outstanding commercial results. Responsible for creating, disseminating and continuously updating a knowledge base that will be the foundation of our strategy work. Owning and representing the vision for our products, collaborating with other directors from the design, engineering, marketing, sales, and operations departments in order to ensure that we execute against the huge opportunity we have in front of us. Bringing outstanding commercial acumen to the role and ensure we are profitable, efficient and effective across the full life cycle of our products. Developing Brompton’s accessories business. As our bikes become more connected we are developing a roadmap of digital Drive and shape the future of our digital product offering including recruiting appropriate staff. Charged with developing the function and building new, robust, appropriate tools and processes that add value. Sitting on the ExCo board responsible for delivering company strategy and running the business and report into the Chief Design and Engineering Officer. Key Responsibilities: Lead Brompton’s Product Management Department. Build, develop and manage a team of senior product managers. Develop the sub-functions in Product Management, define clear responsibilities and inputs and outputs to partner departments. Work closely with Design, Engineering, Marketing and Commercial teams to develop and deliver product strategy. Take a particularly strong leadership role in forums developing 2-5 year strategy. Sponsor and support the investigation of new ideas and concepts and provide the product, strategy and commercial insight to allow smart selection of programs to go forward. Provide product expertise and support to licensing, joint venture and other commercial partnerships Brompton engages with. Maintain and develop Brompton’s knowledge base of user and market insight covering the key global markets. Ensure the user experience is at the centre of everything Brompton does and that the global user is represented, not just the local. Provide the ultimate ‘voice of the customer’ within Brompton at all stages of the product lifecycle. Own top-level attributes for new product. Drive highly effective use of product attribute methodologies in product development. Own a long-term revenue plan/forecast segmented by product and market. Deliver market sizing with defined confidence levels for major programs. This modelling underpins significant strategic decision making and must be of the highest quality. Own and develop Brompton’s product roadmaps. The horizon for bike product includes annual product updates, an ambitious five-year rage expansion plan, and a strategic long-term program covering 5 years out. Build and own Brompton’s digital product strategy. This is an immature part of the business and will require intensive development. Build a successful accessory business turning over multiple tens of millions. Keep levels of ambition high within the company. Fight for the user experience and deliver. Market sizing skills (TAM, SAM, SOM) etc. A proven track record in forecasting demand for new products, and determining forecast confidence levels. Extremely strong commercial skills, a track record in building evidence-based P&Ls and validating them. An ability to prioritise competing investment decisions based around robust modelling of ROIs. Entrepreneurial drive, the experience to select and develop ideas into commercially high performing lines. Strong communications skills – with peers, team and C Suite. Able to tell a product story at all levels of the organisation and generate excitement. Excellent relationship management skills and a record of forming productive relationships with peers. Resilient, self-motivated and able to work well under pressure. An independent thinker. Friendly and collaborative. Takes delight in building products that are different, truly useful and enhance our users lives. An interest in cycling and a desire to improve the world through smarter transport solutions. Desired Experience: Primary experience should come from a technical consumer goods sector, with a high degree of responsibility. It would be a strong advantage to also have experience of shaping digital products and services, both apps and web. Experience of working with a user centered approach to innovation. Track record of building on unmet and unarticulated needs and working in ‘white space’. Full product-lifecycle management experience, from initial research to end of life. Experience of managing the dependencies between product and technology roadmaps. A superb co-ordinator of Design, Engineering, Brand and Commercial teams. Experience of responsibility in a top-level leadership group. Examples could include being part of a directors group in a medium sized business or as part of a leadership team for major program in a multinational. Proven top-level leadership and management skills. The ability to coach and guide product managers. A source of inspiration and motivation.
