SEN Teaching Assistant Key Responsibilities:
- Provide one-to-one and small group support to students with SEND, both in and out of the classroom.
- Use structured teaching methods, visual aids, and other autism-specific strategies to enhance student learning and engagement.
- Foster a positive and supportive learning environment that encourages independence, social interaction, and emotional well-being.
- Monitor student progress and provide regular feedback to teachers, SENCOs, and parents.
- Collaborate with teachers, therapists, and other professionals to ensure a consistent and effective approach to each student's development.
- Support students in developing social skills, managing sensory sensitivities, and navigating daily school routines.
- Assist with personal care and mobility needs as required, ensuring the dignity and well-being of each student.
- Participate in staff training and professional development opportunities to stay up-to-date with best practices in autism education.
- Maintain accurate records of student progress and support activities.
SEN Teaching Assistant Non-Negotiables:
- Previous experience working with children or young people with SEND in a school or similar setting.
- Must have worked with children or in a school setting within the last 5 years.
- A strong understanding of SEND-specific teaching strategies and approaches.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and parents.
- Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for supporting the development and well-being of students with autism.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team and adapt to the changing needs of students and the school.
- A commitment to promoting inclusion and ensuring all students have equal access to education.
