An exciting opportunity has arisen across South Tynesideand Sunderland NHS Foundation Trust to recruit self-motivated enthusiastic anddynamic midwife with a specialist interest in Diabetes.
You will be responsible for leading in the development ofcare and management of women who have diabetes. This will involve workingcollaboratively with the lead consultant and others within themultidisciplinary team, extending regionally to ensure the delivery ofhigh-quality care.
As a directorate we are committed to the development andeducation of our staff, supported by dedicated practice development andeducational lead midwives.
Main duties of the job
Applicants should be Registered Midwives on Part 10 of theNMC Professional Register and hold or be working towards a degree in midwifery.Candidates should possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills andbe prepared to work closely within a multi-disciplinary team. You will berequired to develop and expand your midwifery skills through internal rotationwithin all maternity settings. A flexible approach to working hours isessential.

Job responsibilities

Lead midwife providing specialist care and advice for women with pre-existing and gestational diabetes
To plan, assess and evaluate full programme of individualised care from preconception to postnatal period, taking cognisance of social, physical, psychological and cultural needs, for all women including those with complex care needs
Midwifery CNST link for diabetes
Liaise and work very closely with the Specialist Diabetic Consultant and the Specialist nursing team to ensure all aspects of Diabetic care are monitored and managed effectively
Joint Lead professional for some diabetic women
* You will be required to work at least one day per month clinically to embed a culture of visible leadership and maintain own clinical skills and expertise
Works autonomously within the NMC, Trust and Directorate Guidelines
* Must deliver high quality midwifery care by ensuring appropriate systems and processes are in place to provide the continuity of safe and effective care at all times.
* They will act as a champion for professional accountability and standards, ensuring that professional practices are in line with the requirements of the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC), and Trust Policy.
* Support and contribute to the development of patient care and midwifery practice within the Directorate. Supervising junior staff. Contribute to Trust wide projects as required.
* Ensure effective line management of staff and ensure they are supported in performing to their full potential. Ensure junior staff have appropriate support and supervision and are appropriately assessed.
* To comply with the trusts vision, values and behavioural compact.
Person Specification
Experience
* Experience of managing change
* Experience of change management.
* Thorough understanding of contemporary midwifery issues.
* Experience of leading a team.
* Evidence of innovation in practice.
* Experience of working at Band 7 or previous team management
Qualifications
* Current NMC Registration (Level 1 Midwifery).
* Degree in Midwifery studies or healthcare related subject.
* Mentorship qualification/equivalent and or Practice Assessor training
* Management and leadership training.
* Relevant courses relating to Diabetes in pregnancy
Knowledge & Skills
* Evidence of leadership qualities.
* Awareness of national health and social care policy.
* Knowledge of best practice in area of specialism.
* Thorough understanding of expanded roles/professional practice issues.
* Ability to provide and receive complex, sensitive or contentious information, where persuasive, motivational, negotiating, training, empathic or reassurance skills are required.
* Able to work without supervision.
* Competent in the use of Microsoft office packages.
* Evidence of competency in relation to midwifery practices appropriate to the post.
* Understanding of budget and financial control systems.
Physical Skills
* Ability to assist patients to move as per Trust Moving and Handling Policy
* Car driver with access to a car.
