We are pleased to announce an opening for the position of Rheumatology Clinical Nurse Specialist within the Musculoskeletal Directorate at The Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton and The Princess Royal Hospital in Haywards Heath. This is a distinctive opportunity for a nurse who possesses the appropriate skills and qualifications to become a valued member of our dedicated Clinical Nurse Specialist Team.
The post holder will be involved in all aspects of managing a caseload of patients within the speciality. They will undertake nurse led clinics and work as an independent practitioner whilst promoting a collaborative and multiprofessional approach to patient care pathways.
To be eligible for this position, applicants should demonstrate a genuine interest in rheumatological conditions and a commitment to providing care for patients with long-term health issues. You will be responsible for promoting a safe and compassionate environment for patients. Additionally, it is crucial that you possess strong time management skills and the ability to work independently.

Main duties of the job
1. Have excellent communication skills with patients, carers, and other health professionals in both individual and group settings, providing and receiving information that can be complex and sensitive.
2. Ensure all clinical documentation is completed to the highest standard, meeting NMC and Trust guidelines.
3. Work as an effective team member to help develop protocols and guidelines to support clinical practice, ensuring these are updated as required.
4. Contribute to the setting and monitoring of standards in rheumatology nursing practice and service provision.
5. Able to reorganise workload appropriately as the caseload may be unpredictable on a daily basis.
6. Liaise and work closely with the rheumatology nurse specialists and medical team in the delivery of care for patients with rheumatological conditions.

Job responsibilities
1. Liaise and work closely with the rheumatology nurse specialists and medical team in the delivery of care for patients with rheumatological conditions.
2. Develop autonomous nursing practice and manage own caseload of patients under supervision of the senior nurse specialist and medical staff in the delivery of care.
3. Provide advice to patients, carers, and other health professionals via the rheumatology nurse advice line, recognizing their own limitations.
4. Develop musculoskeletal examination skills.
5. Review rheumatology patients, assessing, planning, monitoring, and evaluating their care and reporting any clinical risk.
6. Manage and analyse blood results, recognizing abnormal blood results and withholding treatment and repeating bloods as necessary.
7. Request x-rays and ultrasounds according to department protocol after appropriate training.
8. Provide IM steroid injections according to PGD after appropriate training.
9. Provide and promote health education and advice in rheumatology and treatments available.
10. Plan and implement care based on sound theoretical knowledge and evidence.
11. Have excellent clinical judgment skills which require analysis and interpretation of a range of clinical options regarding patient care.
12. Ensure the use of clinical governance framework and resources to guide practice.

Essential
* Registered Nurse with NMC PIN
* Mentorship or other equivalent teaching certificate
* Experience of caring for patients with rheumatoid arthritis and other connective tissue diseases
Desirable
* Health Promotion experience
* Experience of forward planning and managing own caseload.
* First level degree
