North Bristol Academy, part of North Bristol Trust, is inviting applications for the position of Clinical Teaching Fellow in Obstetrics and Gynaecology from6 August 2025 to 4 August 2026.This role presents an excellent opportunity for aspiring candidates to contribute to the vibrant undergraduate medical education community located at Southmead Hospital in Bristol.
Position Overview:We are seeking applications from junior doctors with a keen interest in Obstetrics and Gynaecology to join the North Bristol Academy team. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in organising and delivering undergraduate medical education for students enrolled in the University of Bristol medical program.
Responsibilities:
• Actively contribute to the planning and execution of undergraduate medical education programs.
• Collaborate with the North Bristol Academy team to enhance the learning experience for medical students.
• Engage in hands-on teaching experiences within the Obstetrics and Gynaecology discipline.

The post holder will help facilitate the delivery of the University of Bristol undergraduate reproductive health and care of the newborn curriculum to Year 4 medical students on placement at North Bristol Trust (NBT).
· Clinical Teaching Fellows (CTFs) deliver core curriculum content, act as tutors and are involved with the assessment of medical students.
· The post holder will be expected to act as a role model and mentor to the medical students.
· The post holder may be asked to develop teaching materials and enhance learning within the NBT Clinical Skills Lab and Simulation Space.
· Clinical teaching fellows are expected to be able to deliver several types of teaching.
For example:
o Small group tutorials
o Large group course introductions
o Clinical-based history and examination sessions
o Facilitation of inter-Academy Microsoft Surface Hub sessions
o Bedside teaching
o Clinical skills-based practical teaching
o Simulation-based teaching
· This post involves an on-call commitment in obstetrics and gynaecology at an ST3+ level.
The post holder will have at least one session in their week to undertake a clinical activity that may be beneficial for the development of their skills in obstetrics and gynaecology
· The Obstetric Unit at Southmead Hospital is one of the major units in the country, there being 5,400 deliveries per annum. The gynaecological unit is located adjacent to the obstetric unit and has over 4,000 admissions per annum, and there are 18 gynaecological operating lists per week.
· The department is the host of the regional maternal medicine network, the regional Placenta Accreta Spectrum network and complex TOP. We can offer experience in infertility treatment (the adjacent BCRM unit is a leading unit in infertility services nationally), fetal medicine and prenatal diagnosis (amniocentesis, detailed ultrasound scanning, chorionic villus sampling), gynaecological ultrasound and minimal access surgery. We offer tertiary urogynaecology services and advanced endometriosis service including robotic surgery. Gynae outpatient services provides gynaecology clinics, colposcopy and outpatient hysteroscopic procedures.
· North Bristol Academy (NBA) is one of 7 Academies located at NHS Trusts throughout the Severn region. It provides clinical placements for University of Bristol medical students from all 5 years of the MB ChB programme.
· This post offers the opportunity to work in a busy, well-supported undergraduate medical education setting in combination with a service commitment in the NBT Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology. Previous post holders have enjoyed working between the different areas and have been able to develop areas of interest.
