This varied role acts as a Medication Safety Officer (MSO) for the organisation and provides leadership to the Pharmacy team on the Scarborough site.
Working with an established multi-disciplinary team, you will develop a strategy and initiatives to meet the medicines safety challenges faced in the organisation and you will analyse trends and share learning from incidents.
You will represent Pharmacy at Trust patient safety committees and will be given opportunity to network with peers within the ICS, region and through the National MSO network. You will also be given opportunity to undertake practice-based research/QI on areas relating to medication safety.
Main duties of the job
This role is based on the Scarborough Hospital site with an anticipated 1 day per week at York Hospital with 1-2 sessions per week of clinical commitment.
Key skills and attributes we are looking for is an individual who is passionate about medicine safety and wants to engage with the teams to make things better and work to continually improve.
A broad clinical background and experience of investigating incidents, writing action plans and chairing meetings is essential.
You will manage a small team of experienced pharmacists and a pharmacy technician.
Leadership responsibilities will include Pharmacy site lead at Scarborough Hospital, deputising for the Chief Pharmacist at Trust and external meetings and taking on projects as part of the Pharmacy Leadership Team.

Person specification
Education, Qualifications and Training
* Masters Degree in Pharmacy (4yrs) or equivalent
* 1 year pre-registration training (assessed and examined)
* Registered member of the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC)
* Post graduate clinical diploma or MSc or equivalent experience
* Continuous professional development at least to mandatory requirements of the GPhC
* ECDL
Experience & Knowledge Required
* Minimum of 10yrs post registration experience in hospital pharmacy, including 5yrs at senior level.
* Experience of managing staff and other resources, service provision and managing change within a complex organisation
* Knowledge of Clinical Governance, Medicines Management, Risk Management, Health & Safety and the wider Health Service, including primary care
* Knowledge of statutory requirements covering pharmacy practice, Health & Safety and employment law.
* Working in a senior deputising role within hospital pharmacy
* Experience of publication of research or other material
