BBC Radio Devon is looking for a confident and experienced journalist who is as happy reading bulletins as they are finding and researching content for our radio shows and social platforms.
You’ll need a strong understanding of how to make a story come to life and need to understand who our audiences are and what matters to them. We are looking for you to deliver original stories to surprise and engage our audience in creative ways
You’ll already have a journalism qualification or a proven track record.
The day to day job involves finding setting up and producing live programmes for Devon and writing and reading the news for the wider region. You will also work as part of the wider South West news team based in Plymouth.
You need to be happy to work a range of shifts which could include early mornings and weekends.
Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities
Studio producing live radio programmes.
Researching and producing future programmes.
Writing and reading live timed news bulletins.
Ability to find gather and edit content for radio and social platforms
Knowledge, Skills, Training & Experience
You’ll have
• Experience working in a live radio production environment
• Good editorial judgment and ability to write clearly and accurately
• Knowledge of the BBC Radio Devon area – the stories and issues that matter, A good understanding of news and current affairs and how they affect people locally.
• A good understanding of the local radio audience
• Highly organised and knows that paying attention to the details really matters
• Knowledge of our editorial and technical systems or willing to learn new skills.
• You’ll be able to draw on a huge range of sources for story ideas and the stories that matter to a diverse range of communities in the county and get people talking about them.
• A great team player, organised, self-motivated and bursting with original ideas.
