About this opportunity
An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Carlisle Adult Learning team. We are looking for an ambitious and motivated individual to play a key role in the delivery of health and wellbeing provision to those living within Carlisle and the wider community. Specifically, we are looking to recruit a ‘Hill Skills’ tutor, who will be tasked with delivering hill skills and navigation workshops and one-day excursions on local fells. We are seeing increased demand for this type of provision and therefore are looking for a highly motivated and enthusiastic individual to continue this trend. It would also be advantageous to have additional health and wellbeing experience, such as health and safety, first aid or expertise in environmental sustainability, to further broaden our offer. We work closely with partner organisations, and there would be an expectation that the successful applicant would strengthen these partnerships further by offering health and wellbeing provision to those who have limited access to outdoor activities.
Responsibilities:
1. Deliver hill skills and navigation workshops and one-day excursions on local fells.
2. Strengthen partnerships with local organisations to offer health and wellbeing provision.
3. Provide engaging courses to support the growth of the Service.
4. Be available for classes during the day and evening hours, including occasional work on Saturdays.
Minimum Requirements:
The successful applicant will hold an introductory teaching qualification in the adult learning sector (minimum Level 3, e.g. PTLLS/Award in Education and training) or be willing to work towards and must achieve in the first 12 months. A relevant qualification and/or relevant experience in the subject specialism being taught is also essential. The successful candidate will be experienced, highly motivated, enthusiastic, confident and able to communicate clearly and effectively at all levels.
We offer an extensive range of subjects to the communities of Carlisle, and the right candidate will offer interesting and engaging courses to support the growth of the Service. Teaching hours will be varied and are dependent on demand; however, it is likely there will be a need to be available for classes during the day and evening hours, including occasional work on Saturdays.
Adult Learning, rated Good by Ofsted, delivers community learning and skills provision both face to face and online. Our Service is focused on provision which transforms the lives of our most disadvantaged communities, enhancing employment opportunities and promoting health and wellbeing. In return, we can offer you a friendly and supportive working environment, access to training and development and challenging and rewarding work.
What can we offer you!
* Excellent training and development offers.
* Flexible working opportunities.
* Opportunity to join the Local Government Pension Scheme.
* Boost your pension with Shared Cost Additional Voluntary Contributions (facilitated by AVC Wise).
* Various perks and discounts schemes, including money off your phone contract and local gyms.
* Competitive rates of pay.
* A 12-month digital trial (from 1 June 2024) of a new scheme that allows free workplace car parking for employees in all Westmorland and Furness Council owned car parks between Monday to Friday.
