Job Summary
The London Spinal Cord Injury Centre is a 30-bedded Unit that provides patient-focused care within a multi-professional team for patients with spinal cord injury. We are looking for innovative and inspirational individuals to join our team in the provision of high-quality care to rehabilitation patients. As a spinal injury nurse, you will be involved with the MDT, facilitating goal planning meetings and case conferences to enable safe discharges.
As a Registered Nurse, you will be responsible for supporting the ward in ensuring that our service users' needs are met through the delivery of high-quality care. As a centre of excellence, you will offer a person-centred approach to their independence and well-being. You will carry out all relevant forms of care without direct supervision, teach and supervise qualified and unqualified staff, as well as patients and their families or carers, and maintain high standards of care within the department.
Main Duties of the Job
1. Maintain a high standard of clinical work when carrying out nursing procedures.
2. Responsible for the safe custody of medication, including checking and administration.
3. Ensure compliance with our clinical governance framework, motivate colleagues, champion service user safety and dignity, and drive continuous improvement.
4. Ensure nursing care is delivered using an individualised approach, participate in the admission and discharge planning process in conjunction with the multi-disciplinary team.
5. Engage in the educational needs of both patients, families, carers, and continue to develop and enhance your own professional development.
6. Provide excellent patient-centred care, underpinned with the most relevant evidence-based practice.

Job Responsibilities
1. Practice according to the NMC Code of Professional Conduct.
2. Assess care needs for patients, planning, implementing and evaluating care for individual patients.
3. Ensure that all patients receive a high standard of nursing care.
4. Participate in the admission and discharge of patients in conjunction with the multi-professional team.
5. Maintain good communication with all health care staff and ensure prescribed treatment is carried out.
6. Ensure the safe custody and safe administration of medicines and report any discrepancies.
7. Participate in the induction of new staff, teach and supervise junior staff.
8. Report any potential complaints or untoward incidents to the Ward Manager/Nurse in Charge.
9. Assist in promoting an open and friendly working environment.
10. Maintain patient and staff confidentiality at all times.
Person Specification
Qualifications Essential
* RN1 adults
Experience Essential
* Working within multidisciplinary teams, current evidence-based practice.
Skills and Abilities Essential
* Competent in basic life support.
* Able to supervise and teach junior staff and students.
* Able to assess, plan, implement and evaluate programmes of care.
